"Cats and the Cradle" Gordon Lightfoot. That story has always stayed with me. "Fancy" for sure. In a different vein, remember "Shooting Star" by Bad Co.? It's hard to think of anything current. It's hard to find anything like that outside of Country these days. How about "Memphis" by Chuck Berry, that guy was actually a great lyricist. I've heard he needs to work on his personal qualities though.

"Vincent" by Don McLean and "Same Old Lang Syne" by Dan Fogelburg. Not to mention "Alice's Restaurant" by Arlo Guthrie and "I Found a Million Dollar Baby (In a Five and Ten Cent Store)" by Warren/ Dixon/ Rose (1931). And "Brandy" by Looking Glass: Suz

Cat's In The Cradle was Harry Chapin, who also did (as previously mentioned) Taxi and Thirty Thousand Pounds-another great story song with a hilarious three-for-one "shaggy dog" ending. Gordon Lightfoot did Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald. How 'bout a classic murder ballad like Knoxville Girl or Delia's Gone? And wow, Suz, four out of five of my faves in one post; are you single?
