I've received some PMs from people who say they hate those things. But you know, they are up there at the top of your post screen looking at you, begging to be used. Are they insincere in your book or do you embrace them?Or do you care?

They're just a bit of fun Chits, but they can soften words, and subtly get across what could otherwise be taken too seriously. Not much different to saying; "I don't want to offend you" or "excuse me for saying but..." before a sentence. It lightens things up.Maybe they seem a bit childish to some, but I think they have their use.Hey! an' even Bill used one today!

I think they can add some fun and feel to a post. I never used to use them, but they are all staring you down for being used. Poor little smiley's just dying to be used!!Bottom line for me-- they're okay fun as long as you don't use them for every single word you write. That would be annoying! LOL!!!

How could anyone really decide that smilies should be disdained? They're so cute. Especially when they run around smiling and blowing kisses. They're little yellow bits of love, meant to convey a deeper understanding of ones' meaning. What could be hateful about that?

Pro for me too. I don't use many other than the .... seeing as I usually use quick reply and they aren't staring at me. Too lazy or preoccupied to look through them otherwise. They can help with the translation of what your intentions are. to all the haters.

I find them useful, particularly for attempting to indicate dry humor or even wet humor , but I think they can be a bit of a communication crutch if they're relied on to heavily.
