Hey, thanks for all the replies on my first thread folks...I read all your observations and listened to all the You Tubes you provided....thanks for the good links and music. I've been so busy writing as of late that I haven't been able to post a lot, but it's a good 'thang.' I owe some folks PMs and e-mails...I will answer them ASAP. I'm off to run some more errands, but I thought some of you might enjoy listening to Gabriella Cilmi. She's been compared to the current crop of soul singers...and some people believe she also reflects the way music is going. Her song is "Sweet About Me." I'm guessing most of the younger people have already heard the song, it's been out a while. I just love the dream-like guitar in this piece....this song seems like 60's style married to the 70's, a new creation perhaps? Well, not totally original, but still REALLY good.BTW, I liked Mojo's comments about how music might be becoming more about listening to the song again as opposed to the visual part of it. For all the good MTV might have done, it may have done more harm over the long haul. It took away some of the listening experience. What good, exactly, was it that MTV did, besides providing inspiration for a great Dire Straits song? If there was anything else, I think I missed it (nothing unusual in me missing stuff, however).

A great idea, badly realized, is still a great idea. Unfortunately, my cable company took The Tube off the "air".

Excuse my high density ratio, but I honestly don't know what you mean. The MTV concept? Not sure what was good about the concept other than a great way to make money for the producers.

The Tube is a broad and deep nearly non-stop 24-hour commercial-free mix of music videos and live performances; the only apparent criteria was that the music be great-'til Comcast took over my local cable company and canned it. It was everything Mtv should have been but never was, other than for about the first two years of it.And Mtv helped launch Tom Petty's career, among others.
