Free Download Cards

Post by DorothyWallace » Fri Jul 02, 2010 1:00 pm

I have some of my song demos available on CD Baby. For a small fee, I can purchase free song download cards. What do you think of that instead of burning CDs to give out to industry people? It seems like it would be easier and it's similar to giving out a business card. I pick them up at Starbucks all the time and I find them very easy. I'd love to get some feedback from previous Road Rally attendees and Taxi.

Thanks,
Dorothy

I think you are better off exchanging business cards and following up 1-2 weeks after the rally. Industry folks get so much stuff handed to them, CD's etc that a lot of it gets trashed. A simple biz card swap works best. It also makes the other party more comfortable, not feeling you are one more person handing them something to take home.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't bring some and use them in the right situations. I'm just saying that, in general, biz card swaps are better.

Looking forward to meeting you!

:) Casey

Hi Dorothy, check out http://bandcamp.com/ you should set up and sell your CD there as well, you can sell physical CD's or downloads, the only cost to you is the transaction fee if someone purchases.
You can also generate coupon codes for FREE downloads for FREE.

It's super easy to setup and the purchase process is a great experience for the consumer.
I highly recommend it!

What about designing your free download cards so that they look like a business card???

For those of us who seldom go on-line to review demos it is a waste of money. The problem is you are never sure which ones of us will or will not. Give me a CD or a card. Ask permission to e-mail me at a later date to follow up, and I will likely ask you to send a demo then. And BTW, for those of you who do the flash drive, I really hate those things.

Thanks for the great tip. I plan to bring business cards and a few CDs for the random drawings. I thought about flash drives and decided against it. This confirms my decision, so thanks again :)

Also thought I'd mention you could put your songs on bandcamp. I think they give you a higher % cut than iTunes and CD Baby. They also give you 200 free download codes. So basically you can set it up so people can pay for your album, but you can also give certain people a download code so they could get it for free.

Just thought I'd bring up another option, even if it might be better suited to something else.
