Hey all,

I am really excited to go to my first rally this year!!

SO, when making a demo to bring:

1) how many songs should go on it? 3, 5, 7, 25? hahaha

Then, should I include a range of styles or stay within a specific genre? What is the best way to go about it, as I think of songs to put on it I am finding that I would like to include everything and that will be too much to expect anyone to listen to it.

2) how many copies should I have on hand?

3) should I put them in a plastic case thing or is a paper cover thing fine? (All my contact info will be on the CD itself as well as embedded in each song)

There's no "right" answer to how many songs on a CD to hand out to industry folks. Generally, in the 3-8 range but make them your best with no filler and lead with what you think are your absolute best track(s).

One of reasons why exchanging business cards and following up later is often more effective is if you establish communication with someone, you may be able to ask them what style of tracks they are most interested in before sending them a link or CD.

Should your CD be all one style or a variety? Again, no right answer other than think about what you do best. If your real strength is death metal instrumentals, maybe stick with that. If you truly are very versatile and feel that is your strong point, you can show that. Many suggest if you have tracks in very different genres to put them on separate CDs, clearly labeled as to genre, so the industry person can file them away efficiently for the future when they need something of a particular genre.

The important thing is to make contacts, not force CDs on anyone, and remember... That CD is your resume sent to a potential employer.

I agree with Casey... Nice business cards. A few Cd's with 5 or so of your best songs. Separate by Genre if you write in different genre's

I will prob bring about 10 CD's and I also have a few thumb drives with my logo on it, will put a few songs on it. to hand out.. something different

but most important is just getting to know people and making contacts.
