Re: 4 for 4! Cocktail Piano
Listened through all 4, Charlie. I would be SHOCKED if you didn't record those on a real piano; confirm that's not a V.I.CharlieErnst wrote: ↑Mon Jun 10, 2024 6:03 pmWoo Hoo

The tone is magnificent; the recordings are stellar - at least to these old-guy ears.
SO - since you got them all forwarded - BIG CONGRATS - and they are available for download...
what happens should any or all get licensed? Many could have 'free' copies of those already?
Not sure how all that works.
Good ear-candy - best of luck getting them placed. I'm a fan of piano music.

Re: 4 for 4! Cocktail Piano
Curious to know what piano you used; and possibly how you mic'd it up...
unless it's your trade secret.

Re: 4 for 4! Cocktail Piano
Hi All. Thanks for listening.
For those of you who think it's a real piano in my studio - I wish. I do have a Steinway upstairs in my living room that I have been experimenting with different mic techniques, but to no avail. So, I use the piano VST Pianoteq 8, from Modartt. I have the standard version, and either use the Steinway D Jazz or the Steinway D Classical preset. I adjust the velocity curve to "Moderately fast keyboard."
I've been using Pianoteq since it was released years ago. Being a studio pianist for years when I lived in NYC and played piano if few of the great studios there, this just has the sound that I am used to hearing. There is also a lot of editing you can do i.e. #of, and mic placements, pedal noise, age of the instrument, tuning, lid open, etc. Like a lot of Piano VSTs these days. Too easy to go down the rabbit hole if you ask me. There are also user .fxp files from the website and other users, that can be uploaded. I just uploaded a Bill Evans style piano preset that I'll be messing around with in the not too distant future.
That's it. Oh, I have an old FATAR STUDIO 900 88 key controller. I record the midi right in to LOGIC, but sometimes I'll record directly into Pianoteq's built-in .wav recorder. I also love the fact that as soon as I open the plug in (I've set up my computer to open that up when the computer strarts) it records what I play without me hitting the record button. It's great to capture those early 5 AM noodling sessions and see what develops, without the pressure of a red light or metronome. On the master out in Logic, I use a plug-in called The God Particle from a company called CRADLE.
Hope this is helpful, and if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks again for listening,
Charlie
