Underscore alternative mix requirement

Hello everyone,

I have deals with an international library as a result of a forward. They require different alternative mixes, and I want to ask a couple of questions concerning underscore mixes.

How is an underscore alternative mix different than a main mix? OR, how do you describe and approach an underscore mix?

Any comments would be helpful. I'm not sure if I should post here or in the technology and production section.

Congratulations on your recent deal!

At the very least, an underscore mix would involve removing the melody. They might want you to remove other instruments that would draw attention to the music, such as drums or percussion. Another common type of alternate mix is called a bed, where the melody and other key rhythmic elements are removed, leaving a more sparse version of the original track. A lot of your decisions will depend on the style of the music too.

I hope that's helpful! I don't think it would hurt to ask them exactly what they want for an underscore mix either.

Thanks BrentI! Helpful thoughts. I think the key for me you mentioned might just be the word sparse.
