3 forwards for the same listing! That's a good feeling... had to brag.A wide range of REGGAE/CARIBBEAN SONGS & INSTRUMENTALS -- from Dub/Ska to Dancehall to Calypso to Pop-Reggae to Soca -- are needed by a West Coast-based Music Library whose clients include Xbox, Microsoft, Visa, Clorox, Adidas, Esurance + many more. Spanish vocals are OK. They offer a standard non-exclusive, 50/50 deal - all royalties are split down the middle and they don’t acquire your song’s copyright. Songs must be broadcast quality (great sounding home recordings are OK). You must control the publishing and master rights to your songs - no samples that require clearance, please. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD, include lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Sept. 6, 2006. TAXI # S060906RG "Nomi, I like the approach on these tracks, particularly the vivid raps and the strong, authentic feels. " #53Thanks 53

I don't know much about the sub-genres beyond Reggae... e.g. "from Dub/Ska to Dancehall to Calypso to Pop-Reggae to Soca"... But obviously the reviewer did and had good taste...All the hard work will pay off one day... Keep at it! Casey

I've heard of Ska but couldn't tell you what it is other than it's supposedly fun for parties. I can sort-of guess what Pop-Reggae is by putting two things together. However, I DO know what Calypso is. So my expert opinion is... "Cool tracks". Dave

Re: 1, 2, 3...
Actually Dave, no one knows what Calypso is. Not for sure. What is played by Calypso musicians today is more Soca. If you go down island where I lived and listen to Calypso, you'd have a hard time distinguisihing between Calypso and Rap. Sparrow, who does some cool stuff, and was Calypso king in Trindad and Tobago for a long time (and loved throughout the windward islands for his road songs) , is out of date--I doubt he could get a forward for a pure Calypso listing today. Soca, Calypso and even Merenge are merging with rap and dancehall music real fast. It drives me nuts. I grew up listening to Harry Belafonte, and much of what he sang was called Calypso then. But it ain't now.My hat is off to anyone who even can tell the difference. I asked every musician I met during ten years in the islands and Spanish Main to tell me or show me the difference between Soca and Calypso. Not one could, except to say, If he be a Calypso Mon, then the song be Calypso. If he be Soca Mon, then it be Soca." And for the record, Sparrow was both. This is why I HATE labels.
