Rock Instrumental Forward (1 for 3)

I submitted three tracks to the following listing:CURRENT ROCK INSTRUMENTALS IN A VARIETY OF STYLES ranging from Alternative Rock (Muse/Kasabian/The Killers/etc.) to Hard Rock (Hinder/Daughtry/3 Doors Down/etc.) to Nu Metal (P.O.D./Limp Bizkit/Papa Roach/Korn/etc.) are wanted by a very successful Production Music Library who has placements with ABC, CBS, NBC, WB, Disney, Discovery, Lifetime, Fox, USA, etc. (to name just a few). They want tracks that build and grow, with melodic and dynamic variation, for a variety of Film/TV placement opportunities - they need to quickly add to their catalog in this genre. You may consider editing down a full-length song in order to avoid long sections of repetition, since this company NEEDS to have tracks that are changing & building constantly. You can submit tracks that range between 1-4 minutes in length and be sure there are NO VOCALS - they’ll be focused on the sound of the guitars/drums for this one (be sure they sound authentic and current!). They want material that sounds like it could be on the radio, but will only be interested in Instrumental versions for this listing. Broadcast quality is necessary, though excellent home recordings should be fine.I really wasn't 100% sure about what exactly they were looking for. Were they wanting sound beds? Were they wanting a melodic "lead" to carry the parts where the vocals would typically go?I wrote two pieces specifically for the listing:1) What You're Looking For -
http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=true2) I Can't Save You -
http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueAnd then at the last minute I decided I would submit another track that I had previously recorded from a while back. 3) Dark and Overcast -
http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... eam=trueOf the three I submitted, it was the last one, "Dark and Overcast" that got forwarded. After hearing the track that B. Flat had that got forwarded, and then comparing it with my track that got forwarded against the two that didn't got forwarded, it was pretty clear to me why they didn't get forwarded. Or at least one reason why anyways. In comparison, quite honestly, they were just boring compared to the other two. Stylistically, I think they were on target, but as the returns said they weren't "distinct or compelling enough" to get forwarded.I wish I could say that my track got the "One Hour Deal" that B. Flat did but alas, that's not the case. But I'm keeping my head up and plowing forward! - Big Blue

Great job Blue....nothing wrong with having all three of these songs on your hard drive for future projects too. There's a home for all this stuff somewhere someday!I like the panning tricks on "I can't save you"...and I'm already on record as a fan of "Dark and Overcast".Congrats on getting another song through!

Congratulations! I only had time to listen to one track so I picked the one that was forwarded. What great energy. Love the sound! I will definitely come back later today and listen to the other two as well. My husband walked by as I was listening and said "Wow - that's great music! What are you listening to?" (and he is pretty picky when it comes to music so that is a great compliment)

Umm... what panning tricks are you referring to? The guitars?Jan 4, 2009, 8:05pm, keithl wrote:Funny how those things work out...you write stuff and the one you "throw" in makes it!I dig the snare on the intro part on I Can't Save You....very cool!Good stuff...and I agree with Devin...they ALL will find homes some day! Thanks Keith... Yeah, I'm glad I decided to submit it. I almost didn't but I thought it had more of an OLD Papa Roach feel during the verses so it was worth a shot. Glad I did That snare is part of the Claustrophobic kit. Can't remember which preset I used for the "mixer" but it definitely wasn't the default one.Jan 5, 2009, 7:01am, mewman wrote:Hey Big BlueNice job on all three tracks. So earlier tonight, I got an email from the company that this was forwarded to. They said it sounded great and are considering adding me to their catalog, but they're not looking for 1 or 2 songs from any artist, but instead, they're looking for composers who can do multiple tracks. So they want me to send them 3 more songs, and I quote... "in any genre, as long as they sound GREAT."So I just wanted to share this with everyone. There seems to be a lot of new people on the forums lately so I thought I'd update this thread to give some of the newbies a realistic example of how long this process can be, even on a dispatch forward. Now I have to figure out which 3 songs to send him!!!! Not a bad problem to have - Big Blue
