How long should I wait after a forward to re-use a song?

I've only been with Taxi for a year so I'm not sure on what is advised regarding submitting a song to a second or third listing.... after it has been previously forwarded to the first listing?

I have 3 or 4 forwards already and occasionally I will see a listing that seems perfect for a few of the pieces that have been forwarded with no reply yet........
What is the normal protocol with regards to this?
Should I wait a predetermined amount of time past the first listing's "submit no later than...." date to reuse the track or is it wise to just submit all, every applicable listing all the time every time? (my guess)

Do any of the agencies ever let us know that they are NOT using a forwarded track or do they just normally go into a black hole, leaving me to "wait it out" and use my best judgement as to how long is enough?

Thanks,

Go ahead and use it anywhere you like, if you get into a situation of dueling offers you can sort it out then. Yes, they go into a black hole :p

I've had 3 forwards and haven't heard from any of them, so i don't think forwards mean that much other than a nice pat on the back. If you get deals you can start worrying about exclusivity.

p.s, i could be totally WRONG on all of this, but that's my best guess :) We'll see how many old-timers give me take down!

A car salesperson that shows you a car, he/she will continue to show that car to other people until someone actually buys it. We do the same. Just keep showing that music... it's the best way to find a "buyer". 8-)

0 seconds. :D

As others have said, a forward is not a deal. Unless you have information that there is a very likely deal pending, just keep on pitching.

Best of luck!

I could be wrong on this but it is my understanding that most deals are non exclusive, so pitching to other opportunities is acceptable, even after a placement. We are usually renting the song, not selling it.

That's a whole other debate / story...
Libraries are preferring more exclusive tracks now according to Michael and will take a pass on tracks that are signed nonexclusive.
Unfortunately, I haven't had that problem yet, but others can elaborate on it.

Be cautious. ;) If you've already signed a non-exclusive deal (NED) on a track then you can't pitch it to exclusive opportunities and there is a school of thought that says you should treat all NEDs as though they were exclusive. OTOH, there is a competing school of thought that milks non-exclusivity by signing a track multiple times. We have to decide which way is right for us. If a listing doesn't say what the deal is, and you get a forward and you get an offer, make sure you know what the offer means and how it might be affected by any prior NEDs.

An exception to the above is for listings that are after composers rather than tracks. For those, you should pitch your best tracks, signed or not. They want to hear what you can do.

I just got an offer recently to post tracks to a library that is non exclusive.
Now I have to decide which tracks to send. :|

I agree with the others, forwards are a step forward for sure, but really don't mean anything, or obligate you to anything. I have had around 40 forwards with no deals. In addition like someone else mentioned, most deals are non exclusive.
