Forward Questions, just got my first!!

I just landed 2/2 forwards for a Contemporary Blues Rock listing to a major music supervisor. I browsed the boards and noticed a lot of people saying that the waiting time can be up to a year or more to get a response. I know each listing is very very unique to the rest, but I was wondering if a music supervisor listing would move faster than a label listing just that its more time sensitive. Does anyone have any ideas or experience?

Congrats on the forward!! The first one is always so exciting!

It's highly possible that the supervisor is in immediate need of music and the response could be quicker. It's also possible that while the submissions were being screened, the supervisor found what they needed from another source and no longer needs that style of music for this project.

Another possibility would be that the supervisor is collecting music for an upcoming season and has already picked the music for the first two or three episodes but the rest of the season is being shot and edited. In this case, they've decided on the musical "vibe" of the show, but need to wait until the episodes start rolling in so they can see what they need from their specific collection to support the story line. That means that if a show runs for 26 episodes and it hasn't aired yet because it premieres in September, it might be early next year before they even get around to listening to your music. Then if you get in episode 20, for instance, it might be 2014 before you see any royalties.

I'm not saying this to dampen your enthusiasm or rain on your parade, I'm just pointing out that you may hear soon or it may take several months or it's a good possibility that you may never hear from this forward at all. One more thing: I went to a NARIP event with a music supervisor from an ad agency who said that he had a song in his collection for 11 years and finally the perfect opportunity came along to use it. He tried to contact the artist. I can't remember how it turned out, but keep in mind that these folks are music lovers, they are collectors and the best of them have to be magicians and pull the perfect music out of their hat for the clients. They may not need your music right now, but they just might need it somewhere down the line. If you've already signed this piece somewhere else, I have a feeling you'd offer to write them another one just like it!!!

Cheers!

Congrats!
Yeah I agree with mazz, and would also add, that it really is a waiting game. It's not an overnight thing. I really feel its like baking a cake, you can sit in front of the oven watching every second or you start writing and creating the next song!
All the best and I'll see you at the rally.
