Lot's of Forwards but this one has me perplexed..
I'm getting some really mixed reviews from TAXI screeners. I sent the same song in 5 months ago and then again recently for a similar listing. The one 5 months ago was forwarded with 8's and 9' in the reviews. This last one came back with 0 marketability and 4's and 5's (one 8 for musicianship). I thought I had a good song for a Comedy TV Instrumental, now this last screener makes it sound like its complete crap. WHAT GIVES? Confused..oh well, I think I'll keep the song the way it is, I'm pretty sure it will work as the opening song for a comedy sitcom. Here's a link to the song sample (please be kind).http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6820309Also, I wanted to mention that I had recently got a publishing contract for 2 or my songs, pretty cool.....

It's not the song, it's the listing. When the song is held up to the light of the listing, it either works or it doesn't (in the ear/mind of the screener, of course). It might sound great compared to one listing and not so great compared to another. That's the way it goes in the business. They're probably not going to change their editing or the direction of the project based on your music (or anyone else's for that matter), so it either works or it doesn't. It's not about the song, it's about the listing. Wait a minute, didn't I just say that?Keep on writing and moving forward. The fact that you have a publishing contract means you're doing something right. Just move forward.Cheers!!Mazz

imagine if John Williams and Trent Reznor met at Bernard Hermann's for lunch and Brian Eno was the head chef!

Great tune! i like it!And I agree with Mazz -- it's all about how it relates to the listing, and to the screener's personal taste and experience.I think this whole Taxi process is about continually honing your skills and the effectiveness of your songs, but also learning how to find where your songs best fit.Keep up the good work!Suz

hi decent, i agree with the others-- usually the numbers may vary slightly, it's not so common for them to vary quite that much, but nevertheless, two different screeners, two different listings, i would just submit again for a different category and see how a third screener opinion comes into play. nice track though!-juliet

Yea, I was just thinking of the same type of situation. We got our album pressed through Discmakers, so we got that free custom critique with TAXI. The song I submitted "Underground" was given low scores.About to give up on it, I went ahead and submitted it for a listing and just got the notice that it was forwarded today.Really goes to show you individual taste of each reviewer and how well the song may fit into individual listings, you know?

But the scores on any given thing don't have a lot to do with whether a song fits the description of what the screeners are looking for. Every listing is different, every screener is different, and sometimes the same screener's state of mind is different from day to day. To me, that doesn't change their ability to know if a song is right for the listing they are reviewing/screening for, on that particular day.Hey welcome to Taxi. Congrats on your forward.

I've scored 8's and 9's on my songs, but I don't get a lot of fowards because when you're pitching to a country listing, the song has to be PERFECT for what the artist wants....or it has to compete with the best of the best. Scores really mean squat if that helps...they are just an indicator of how well you did the song, but not necessarily an indicator of a foward.I've also scored some 4's and 5's too (although not too much, thank God)...and then on the same song, I scored 8's and 9's....screeners are human, sometimes, they just don't like your song and the process can be subjective. Look for a common denominator......if both screeners think a certain part of your song is lacking, then that's what you should focus on. If three or more screeners think it's a problem, then that is what you for SURE should be focusing on and correcting.

I had the same thing happen with a country song. It got forwarded one month and then full-on panned the next, and the listings were pretty similar (pop country hits). The negative critique mentioned fundamental things (meaning, not listing-specific things) that the first screener had specifically pointed out as great. So, it just goes that way sometimes.

Got all 10s once, without getting forwarded. That one was tough to figure out. But it just wasn't right for the listing...so Next.
