Is this in the right area for the Solo Piano Jazz listing?

Hi all

I'd very much appreciate any feedback on this one,

https://soundcloud.com/simonrushby/just-after-nine

which I put together today for the following listing:

HOLLYWOOD MUSIC SUPERVISOR needs DOWN-to-MIDTEMPO JAZZ PIANO INSTRUMENTALS for a NETWORK TV SERIES. The MUSIC SUPERVISOR needs SOLO PIANO JAZZ pieces for scenes in a cocktail lounge and a high-end hotel lobby.

QUOTING THE SOURCE: "The music should be MELODIC and have a SIMPLE yet SOPHISTICATED ELEGANCE. Anything too distracting may take away from the dialog, so hold back on tracks with too much flair or pizzazz. We're not looking for Liberace here but we need music that's interesting and unique. It's also very important that the piano sounds REAL and AUTHENTIC."

Do people think I'm there in terms of vibe, authenticity, elegance? Be pleased to hear any views

Cheers
Si

Well it's not really in my wheelhouse but I think you'd be crazy not to submit, sounds lovely. I think it successfully establishes a sophisticated, nostalgic vibe and would play well under dialog (if need be) but also works on it's own,

Very nice!

Nice work, Simon. You nailed this one. I can definitely see this in a nighttime upscale hotel lobby. If I could offer ONE bit of criticism, this title isn't quite on the money... This song makes me think of a later time than "Just After Nine". By the time this song is played in a hotel lobby, I imagine it's well past eleven! The music brings to mind some imagery of dark skies, many empty martini glasses, and very amorous behavior... all of which would occur far past nine o'clock.

It's a small nit-pick, but it's all I can offer. The song is tip-top, amigo.

Sounds great! Very cool smoky jazz vibe. The only question I have is about the left-hand sparsely syncopated rhythm pattern. I just wonder if it goes a little too far down the path of sparse and syncopated. If there was a ride cymbal or hi hat keeping a steady tempo, it would probably work better, but without a steady reference point, it feels a bit off balance to me. But on the other hand, that pattern is partly what gives it its cool vibe, and the listing says the piece shouldn't be obtrusive, so it may work absolutely fine for its purpose. You never know (at least not until the listing results come in!).

Good luck with it!

Hey Simon,

Some nice changes on this piece;

Just curious- did you record the left hand playing the bass separately and then play the melody and changes after- there are some spots where Im thinkin it would either take 2 pianos to make- not b/c of the dexterity of it- but because the way the piano is being pedalled and ringing in some spots- I dont think it hurts your piece for this though- I think you've done a nice job.

Thanks everyone, such a lot of really great, useful feedback. Salt - I recorded it in one take actually, but I hear what you mean. Weird! :?

Bummer, my tracks didn't get through. Screener said that two weren't simple enough (including this one) and one wasn't sophisticated enough. Obviously a high bar! Anyone get any through? Would love to hear the tracks that made it. Write, submit, forget....
