Hi everyone; I had a return on this piece called "The Old Country" because the string sample wasn't broadcast quality. So I've revised it. Please let me know what you think. Hi - still sounds a little synthy to me. What library are you using for the sounds? One of the reasons it sounds 'synthy' besides the actual noise the articulation makes, is how it is 'played'. The beginnings of some phrases are very stiff sounding - not like a hand is running a bow across the strings with expression. When an orchestra plays, each player begins the note - no matter how proficient they are - a little differently to each other; and each player 'feels' what they are playing, and expresses that in the phrasing.I gave up long ago on trying to figure out direct links (since TAXI changed to an embedded player, links don't work for me). But you had your address in your signature, so I found the song....PS - wanted to say I enjoyed listening to a couple of your jazz tracks

here's what I'd do:create two or three string tracks playing the same phrases (using different string articulations). Then work with the notes in each track so that they have different velocities, start and end at different times, and are different lengths. Then solo each track and work with CC11 or expression so that the phrasing sounds natural...thanks for the listen. Yep, I have the big O, and usually mix it with EQ Gold, etc

Eric,You have a nice piece going, but for some reason the strings are still sounding unrealistic. Maybe my ears are playing tricks, but it sounds as though you're getting an unnatural release every time you play a new note. The newly played notes also seem to be swelling like an old analog synth.You might try recording each string line in a different track (as if they were different players) and ensure there are release samples active. Also, do you have any reverb on the strings? An "inproper" room sound could be contributing to what I'm hearing as well.Good luck with it!Vince
