It's been awhile since I've put something up here...been working on a lot of projects behind the scenes. Here's one for fun that I just finished recording...maybe it will come in handy if I ever see a listing for send-ups of high fashion...I suppose there's always hope for a Zoolander II. My wife and daughters had fun with the ad libs.But mostly this is a beeyatch of a mixing challenge for me, so I'll be working on this mix all week. This is the first pass, and a lot of things still need to become clear. I think I know what to do, but any advice or suggestions will be most welcome.Thanks! hey Mark...haha! Definitely Zoolanderish man! I do hope they come up with part 2, loved that movie...Ok, U obviously already know that there's work to be done on the mix... & here's what I picked up...The drums need more definition, kick & snare especially...I like the sound of the main vox parts... though it need to come up in the mix more and the backing vox need to well, be more back...Cool song indeed.-Kel

Hi Mark,I normally wouldn't comment, because my qualifications for rock are more as a keyboardist, as opposed to singer songwriter.That being said, I think you have a really great idea to work with and that it could go a long way. I agree with Kel that the mix is problematic, but you already said that.I don't know if it was your stylistic goal, but the song seemed to capture elements from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Not certain whether this hurt or helped, but I heard Cream-style vocals, a definite Bowie rhythm and elements from the Cars.I enjoyed the listen nonetheless! Good luck on this project.Al

Getting there though.Thanks for your advice. I exported that EZ Drummer track into separated audio files and reworked each one. That really helped, because the kick needed a different treatment than the snare, and the hihats, etc. Really opened my eyes...I've always just stuck to the EX Drummer settings, so I guess I must be evolving.Thanks Kel!

Those elements you described are basically where I come from...this was a song I didn't really try to focus in any direction other than bright, glossy, trippy, shallow and fun...just like a modeling show. So I let any old influence blow on by, like those 80's synths, and the Rubber Soul harmonies, whatever. Just a bunch of fun, but the point for me is to challenge my mixing abilities. I'm still ramping up to where I think I need to be to make my submissions stick. Glad you like it! I recruited my wife and daughters for a lot of hilarity on those ad libs... we were laughing our butts off. I guess that's my version of good clean family fun. Thanks Al!
