Am I an epic orchestra composer?

There are 3 listings I want to write for and am juggling four new pieces. I started trying an Epic Orchestra one yesterday and here's where I stand now. It's a bit early to show it, but the Jazz Fest starts this weekend and my house is going to be invaded in the next couple of days. So for a week and a half its going to be difficult, at best, to get any writing done. I'm trying to finish them all between now and then. So, does this fit the listing? Do you think the electronic grooves in the background are working? Is the piece itself working? I have a few more ideas for this one and will add a wind section, but wanted to see if on the right track so far. Epic or weak?As always, any comments are appreciated.Epic Orchestrahttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=2301 ... anfusilier

I love it!!! I haven't even started on mine yet but now I feel inspired! Great percussion. I am looking forward to hearing it again when you have added the winds. ~ Lydia

Wow!, I really could hear that in a movie sound track. Very nice buildup over time and a good amount of variety to keep it interesting. Sounds like with the current direction the wind section could make this an even more outstanding piece. Certainly sounds Epic to me. In the "my 2 cents" area: The only thing *might* make it better is if the ending were bigger/stronger. It is a good ending as it is, but I was just expecting a bit more pop at the end. But that is really trying to be nit picky, so take it with a grain of salt.Awesome job!

Hi, I'm not this type of writer - but it sure sounds "epic" to me... Nice tension builds, etc. Excellent sounds/samples & execution of parts, what ever your using. You got a midget orchestra under your desk? Chris

Hi Bryan-Nice job on this piece; it has some character for sure. I don't think it's ready for prime time though. Its two main problems are its pacing and its [lack of] dynamics.AFA its pacing goes, due to the tempo you've chosen and some of the jerky, disjointed percussive elements you've included, the whole piece has a lumbering feel to it, not a forward-moving energy that I would expect in such a genre.WRT dynamics, the piece never really reaches out and grabs me. With the exception of an "A for Effort" build near the end, it seems to start and finish without much real emotion. When I think of "Epic," I want to hear a piece that knocks my socks off with energy, emotion, drive, power, size, and story-telling evolution. I think you're on the right track, but I'd re-work this cue with 10x the amount of those things that are in there now.HTH,André

Thanks Andreh,It's all going pretty fast. Hopefully I can pull off with some of your points in mind. 10x the amount might be a tough call, but I'll see you at least 6x.B

I think this tune is very good, and you have a good ground to stand on! I do agree with Andreh, I think it's big all the time, you need to go in and out more, watch carefully what happens with the dynamics in each instrument, you can always play around with the attack, sustain, release and so on. I think a distorted electric guitar would do it as well! If you listen to True blood and so on, it's a lot of guitars!
