These are the two that I'm thinking about submitting to the Crime Drama Instrumentals. I'm looking for feedback on the mixes, the writing and whether or not I hit the mark or not. BryanThese are both good tracks! I may be completely wrong so take this with a grain of salt. When I think "drama", I think of dramatic dynamics. I don't hear much of this in either track. They certainly have the feel of CSI and are techno and all that. Just something to consider...Good Luck!Keith

Thanks Keith,I agree with you, they don't really play with dynamics. It's all 99% synths. I was hoping the evolving drum patterns took care of the build and the adding of layers. I frankly don't know my ass from a hole in the ground in this listing. Watched a few shows. Got a sense of it. Took a shot. Is this an issue?B

Hey B... I haven't really watched a lot of CSI so I can't comment on that aspect of the listing, but I'm a 24 FREAK... Jack Bauer is REAL!!!! Anyways... neither of these two make me think of 24.Just to make sure... is this the listing you're talking about:CRIME DRAMA INSTRUMENTALS in the style of the underscore for such dramas as CSI and 24, are needed by an East Coast Music Publisher who has secured dozens of Film/TV placements for TAXI writers over the years. He is looking for mysterious and suspenseful styles that "must have a contemporary rhythm section". He'll be looking for shifts in tone, instrumentation and dynamics throughout each piece. He definitely does not want it as hyper-tempo as requested in listing # Y090512ID . He's open to any arrangement or instrumentation, as long as the tone is right. Excellent performances are absolutely necessary. He specifically said he wants to hear tracks that are :60 seconds in length. He doesn't want fadeouts, just clear endings. Broadcast quality is required [excellent-sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three compositions online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Monday, May 4, 2009.I bolded a line that I think is a key component of this listing. When listening back to your piece, in particular CSI 2, it doesn't really feel like their is any shift in tone or dynamics. Maybe a slight change in dynamics, but nothing "dramatic." Granted, I don't typically write in this genre, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but I don't think you're quite on target yet for this listing, if it is indeed the one I listed above.If you have some time, watch an episode of 24 online at Fox.com and I think it'll help you narrow in on what this listing is after.Just my $0.02.- Big Blue

Ahh Big Blue,Jess, that's the listing.You could be totally right. I only watched 3 episodes of 24 and was so confused that I couldn't really go on. What the @#(*# is going on there? Good God, an hour for every hour of the day. Does he ever sleep? What happens in those episodes?So I concentrated on the CSI's. Which seemed a bit more loose. You could be completely right.

I listened to your first and I love the piece and the atmosphere. But I don't know if it's tense enough? I felt it more to be drama/new age like. But I loved it!

Drama/New Age. I actually like that idea!You seem to know these shows Orest. What's the take here? I can tense these up easily enough. We just talking about tension in the harmonies? The few CSI's I saw (Los Vegas, go get em' red head guy!) Seemed to be pretty trippy, not so much tense. For some reason it all reminded me of an old "miami vice episode done by David Lynch). But I must have caught some off the cuff one's cause that was some funny stuff.Does it need to be more dramatic somehow? In the synths or more orchestra? You can tell I know what I'm doing here.

I like the feel of of your first track but for sure you need more dynamics!!

Hi Bryan, Well here's what I felt, apart from "they are really good tracks" - track number 1 - could you speed it up? I think that might give it the drive it needs. It feels more like a new age tempo. Then you might have to add a bit to make it 60 seconds. Number 2, I like the first 30 seconds more than the second 30 seconds. You get a rock beat going from :30 and it pulls the feel back into a more relaxed thing, not the more urgent that would take it in the right direction, I feel. You have rhythmic 8th notes going in the beginning, build on those. Instead of the rock drum, maybe a big bass drum or ethnic drum???Just thoughts. I am trying to do some of these but failing miserably so far!!!! But I know it when I hear it. You've definately got the right sound here. Georgie

hey Bryan,I believe I've heard track one before & I love it... I still do...However, in regards to the listing, after reading what Big Blue mentioned about "shifts in tone, instrumentation and dynamics throughout each piece"I think he's spot on abt that & track 1 could definitely use a more shifts... I'm definitely changing mine too as in shifts in tone dynamics...Listenin to track 2 now...Ok this one seems to have more shifts and that's good... I also enjoyed this one alot... However... if in context to the bloody listing, becos we do wanna hit the target... both tracks need more shifts... I'm currently also struggling with the shifts part for this listing so it's hard for me to be sure abt what to suggest for now... but when I find a way... I'l definitely share it again here.-Kel
