Hello. I'm new to TAXI and a bit apprehensive about posting my music here. Everyone seems to be pretty cool about giving advice and opinions though, so here goes. What I'd like some help with is what type of listings I should submit to. I wrote, sang, played guitar and recorded/mixed the songs so have at it with the critiques as well. Thanks. Mike

Hi Mike welcome. Don't be worried about posting here. Although it doesn't hurt to not take things too personally, people here are some of the most helpful and nice on the net. I'm hearing like a roots-rock or almost southern rock. Maybe even things asking for bands a la Phish and Dave Matthews Band might be appropriate. You've got a cool, unique tone to your voice that I'm digging.I'm digging "Into the Light" too. Good luck!

Yeah good bunch of folks.Heh, well for me yes and no. I'm always anxious to see peeps reactions but I'm not as afraid of negative feedback definitely. (I guess I always will to a point or I wouldn't be doing this though ha ha.)Cool thing is that here you have people on ALL levels and you can't some real killer advice.Oh and btw... PLEASE consider saving the money and going to the Road Rally. It's one of the best things I did in my music career.

Mike, I like what I hear, though my computer's bein' a pain tonight. I listened to a bit of "You Walk In", "Goodbye California" and "Into The Light".(I'd like to hear more but it's taking about ten minutes per song to bring them up with dial up). I personally like to hear songs done with feeling for the subject and that's what I hear. Mainly wanted to jump in and say welcome and yes it is scary to send your babies out in the world. I'm new here and know what it's like waiting to hear comments on your tunes. Best of luck in all you do. I'll be back to hear some more. Dave

Welcome, Mike. I'm hearing singer-songwriter, with some southern rock/roots vibe.If you get into the groove here and start posting regularly (hope you do), I think it works best to ask for specific advice on whatever you're working on. Maybe you have a finished song that you're considering for a certain listing--we can give you advice. Maybe you have a work tape and want to know if the melody fits the lyric. Etc. Bottom line is you'll usually get some great feedback if you let us know exactly what you want us to focus on. Also helps to know whether you can make the changes yourself or are hiring out.Listening to "Goodbye, California" right now--lots of interesting tempo changes and dynamic/structural things there. Works well and sounds great.You do have a distinctive voice that's reminiscent of somebody--can't put my finger on it right now.Vince

I used to be scared to post stuff here, would tweak it for days first, but now I have no pride whatsoever and even put up stuff I haven't finished.Actually, everybody's pretty cool here and we're all in the same boat, so no worries mate. We get the occasional jerk but the masses have a way of putting them in their place.You have a cool voice. Welcome Mike!! Glad to have you. I like your style, it's cool. I think you would be considered singer-songwriter, you could submit to some rootsy stuff too. Make sure you let us know what you're trying to do. If you are an artist let us know, because we'll review your songs a whole lot differently than if you're trying to submit to a commerical Country or Pop listings.I can vouch for how friendly the forum is, and Peer to Peer has dramatically improved my songwriting skills. I guess I'm an artist that may or may not be a commercial Country or Pop writer. My song "Rescue" is the one that feels like it has the most potential to be covered. I think it would be perfect for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. I suppose as I hang out here and let it all soak in I'll have a go at some commercial writing?Anyhow, I'm assuming you've read Jimmy Webb's book "Tunesmith"? Absolutely great.Thanks again. Mike
