I've totaly remixed this one.. unfortunatly I had to introduce some more VST horns which is counter to the original idea of my having all real horns.. still, more are real than not.. I would like to hear any feedback from those who heard the original as if I am heading in a better direction, or if I have ruined the integrity of the very organic original offering.. I'll take the lack of interest in this one as a polite way for everyone to tell me to give it up and go back to playing guitar.. I appreciate everyone who did take a listen though, can't say I didn't try something different.Peace!

Below average production. Good stereo field. Work to eliminate the noise. Noise is present at intro and end and may carry throughout the tune. Get rid of the noise and your production score will increase. Its not Glen Miller but its not horrible either. I liked the cheeryness of it. Perhaps the piece is missing a central strong melody. Miller again comes to mind.

Darned impressive one man band and composition! That said the punches lack the sort of locked down breathing together tightness that the great big-bands had/have. Just little staggering in the phrases that take a killer groove and make it just a bit off to my ear. The 60cycle throughout doesn't help, but that's been addressed. Agreed that the vox could/should go bye bye.Man, I'd say keep after this. It's a great tune, just needs that last bit of polish. Nothing that can't be nudged into place in a good editor. Amazing piece of work for 1 guy and a trumpet sample -- I only play guitar(s)....Cheers

You definitely captured the vibe--it actually sounds like an old-style recording, so if that's what you were going for--congrats!Only thing that didn't work completely for me was the blippy horn sound (assume that's the VST trumpet) and the clarinet, which probably needs more glide to fit the time period.Congrats on this--it's quite an effort!Vince

I agree that you captured the big band era vibe really well. The feel of the rhythm track is really solid all the way through.I also agree with everyone about the hum and vocals. And, the ending must be written.The main thing that sticks out to me is this: big band music has a lot going on, but it's OK as long as the horn section is tight as nails. If there's counterpoint happening, it's two or more sections that are tight as nails. I am hearing a lot of horn parts that are rhythmically and melodically off from each other, resulting in a scattered feel. There's definitely a melody in there yearning to be free, but it's cluttered. Start from scratch on the main horn line and make a nice, tight, 3-part horn line that is strong melodically and rhythmically. Hopefully you have a Bb and Eb horn to play, for variations in timbre. Remember, this genre is meant for people to dance to, and swing/big band cannot vary from its groove or the dancers will get pissed off. Not like tango or other more fluid styles.Also, definitely ditch the trumpets and possibly the clarinet -- unless you are going to really feature that clarinet over a bed of sexy sax tightness, OR feature a tight 3-part clarinet section. There's no rule that you have to have every big band-y instrument in here -- just think Supersax.I played violin with a big band before, and I have to say it is some of the most challenging material I've ever had to site read and perform. You are doing a good job so far with a challenging genre. So, definitely keep working on this, you're on to something! I'd love to hear a re-posted, revised effort if you keep going.Damian

Hey no don't give up man, you did a fine job here.. definitely captured the old vibe for sure! I agree it could be tightened up and have the groove lock more. I like it though and to me it sounds really close the totally nailing it!
