Is this broadcast quality? How's the piano in the mix How about the pedal steel? Any comments about the song? Music genre? The song is at this site and is called "Gave It To Me Good". Thanks for your time. Dave
www.taxi.com/dberdoulay Gave It To Me Good I was wrong. I admit it. I watched you fallin', fallin' Fallin' from my finger tips. But you waited for me and you understood. All that time, I never thought you would. I never knew just how bad I had it 'till you gave it to me good. You're so strong, I can't quit it. I heard you callin' callin' Callin' out to pull me in. I wasn't looking for you when you found me there. Bruised and shaken, all the worse for wear. I guess i thought love was just one-sided 'till you gave it to me fair. You waited for me and you understood. All that time I never thought you would. I never knew just how bad I had it, 'till you gave it to me good.

Nice song. Overall I'd say this meets the 'broadcast quality' bar. One thing that struck me was a disconnect between the kick/bass/acoustic right at the beginning of the song. This is such a sparse and open arrangment that any lack of sync on that dotted 1/8th pattern shines pretty hard. You might want to go back through and make sure that those things line up just right everywhere.I love the steel guitar!!! Is that lap or a pedal steel? Great playing and gorgous sound -- I'm a sucker for that stuff. Brings a tear to my eye every time...cheers!

Teleblaster, Thanks for the input. I was wondering about that kick-off and grew tired of trying to catch it with my ear. This is so great to be able to get some fresh ears on it like this. I'll see what I can do there. It is pedal steel guitar you hear and i'll pass on the kind words about it to my brother. We kinda questioned the combining steel with piano but felt it had a good feel to it after many listens. I have checked out some of your material and you got some wicked guitar licks! Thanks so much for taking the time to listen. Dave

DaveThe song is good and broadcast quality except for a few pitchy vocals.Nobody wants to say or hear that comment. I know, but if you were to observe usingmelodyne you would totally agree. Some are dead on. When your voice falls off, that is where it happens.I am one of the guys who usually sugar coats everything. Not any more, it does not help anyone.PaulNice to meet you. Paul

I think this is broadcast quality, a cool song too. I didn't really notice any pitchy places that jumped out at me but I did notice maybe a few places where things could have been tighter . . . but that didn't really bother me either. I'm easy! I think this is just has a nice organic sound.

hi dave----first comment, until the last of the tune, i think i'd turn UP the steel a bit MORE in the intro and early on...we hear it fine later, but early its buried IMHO...at :55 it is just right at that level and onward, to my ears anyway....--the piano, i'd back off the reverb just a bit, and the higher end a bit as well.--i hear this as a country tune, but i'll be damned, or i'm just plain dumb (flip a coin on that one...) i've listened twice, i've read the lyrics twice, and i'm not sure what the song really says, other than the other person helped you find love, but i'd like to hear HOW, it's a bit too vague--damn it to hell, i just reread that and i'm sounding like my last screener's comments...sorry,..i say this because i REALLY like this song, the music, the instruments, the understated stength of the music and vocal...except for what i'm suggesting re: the lyrics. but hell, again, i may be wrong....it's just my opinion, as "they" say...but i'd like to hear more about how she gave it you good...just some tidbits...very nice job all and all...i enjoyed it. oh the ending slide reminds me of Young's Harvest Moon production on some of his cuts...compliment...the best, warrenps: i find nothing wrong with the vocal, just minor stuff, and that fall off (be it technique or natural) in your voice my friend paul is talking about, he never likes that! take it from me...but in my opinion i think it's just fine...

Bill, Thanks. I really like your style. Both in your music and your aproach to life. You are easy! By the way so is your music site. It is the only one I have been to where I can hear the song without a long wait with my antique dial up modem. Why is that? What kinda hocus pocus you got goin' on there? Dave

Heinsite, (warren?) Noted your advice on steel guitar level. The reverb on the piano is my weakness for reverb in general. I'm known for saying "gimme some more reverb"! As a matter of fact my first C.D. is titled "Raised On Reverb".(honest). Guess I over did it on the piano? The vague lyric..... I let her slip away, thought I had someone better, she waited for me, found me bruised and shaken from the other, and gave it to me fair. Make sense? I don't know........ I'm glad to be hearin' from you guys, thanks a lot!! Dave

Good production. Nice stereo field. Need to tighten up performance on bass and drum. Perhaps it is the bass that is late/early. Voc is good. Overall I'd say broadcast quality = yes You have a consistently excellent stereo field.
