Kitz Inspired Me

With his really nice piano piece, Kitz inspired me to play around with the piano sounds on my old Alesis QS8.1. A 1:50 bit of super-simple piano bed music came out. I think it might go well near the end of a drama where someone's either coming to grips with a difficult situation, or apologizing to an old friend, etc. Feedback's appreciated.JonathanSweet Resignation

I can definitely picture the scene you described. I love simple piano, it's so emotional.I loved it.Andy

Wow... I love the spaces... the restraint... conveys a lot of emotion.....Not a big fan of the sound though.... the high notes don't sound right to me.... good tune though...Peace, Geo

Nice job, jonathan--as Geo and Andy said, the space really works and it carries much emotion. To me, the sound worked in the upper register, but not the mid, although it was very compressed across the board.Vince

Thanks, Andy, Geo and Vince. The upper register is indeed a bit "sterile" in this sample set. Unfortunately it's the best one I've got for now.Jan 15, 2009, 8:14pm, ideascapes wrote:...it was very compressed across the board. Not sure what to do about the compressed sound; this was taken directly from the synth with no effects added. I suppose, like the sterile upper register, I'm stuck with it for a while.

I can't seem to get it to play. I get the following message:Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct.Kitz

Hmmmmm...I know the server name is correct, since others got to it. I would suspect one of the last two possibilities listed: momentary server down or firewall/proxy issues.

I'll mirror the rest here and say that I liked the spacing too! Not familiar with your keyboard, but if you can, try EQing a bit of the high end out, possibly even targeting a couple of different bands under 5K... it should help make it a little less punchy. And, if you can affect the attack of the sample, that could help soften the whole thing too.... of course that could take forever to find just the right feel.... if it's not one thing, it's another! That said, the piece is wonderful!

I also like it!I was going to mention the attack...but Zoom already beat me to it. That's twice today!!! (*raises water glass in salute*).I noticed a good friend on keys sets up a slower attack, almost a swell, when playing the low tempo stuff. It lets him smear over the beat a little, and doesn't make a small timing mistake evident to lowly bass players like me. Of course the expression pedals are getting stomped on too...so I'll just say he's doing "magic".The consensus is it's a nice piece Jonathan!

Thanks, guys. I'll play with the eq a bit to see what I can do. I appreciate your feedback.
