Can you hear any real potential in this one???

I dunno.. I am confused.. This song is a bit a lark.. it is an unfinished and rough piece I intended to blow sax on. I did all the bass, guitars, organ, paino but then put on on Soundclick to see if anyone wanted to add anything to it just for giggles, and in teh meantime it made it to #1 on the Blues charts and people are saying how much they like it.The charts mean nothing of course, but'some' people seem to really like this rough version.. but I don't see any pitchable angle with it.. it's just a semi nice little song some people like.. Any thoughts? I am a bit confounded by this ones acceptance.. I'm having a bit of acceptance block.. then again I am a practical man.Appreciate anyones time if they have any to spare.Other than that, I hope everyones new years is safe and happy.. I wish much more peacer and goodwill towards others in our world than 2008.. we are all due!Willow Weeping lo-fi URL:

I couldn't always hear the drums but I thought they sounded off in places. If you cut back on some of the low end on the bass I think it would help clear things up in the mix a bit.otherwise this is a pretty cool piece with some nice playing. I think sax would be a good idea too.

Billg...Well.. I appreciate your time and ear.. I am dying to drop some sax on this and clean it up a bit, but my house is soooo noisy this holiday season I have had no chance of using the mic...arrrrrggghhhThanks again.

Hi Maxwell,Nice blues piece. I agree with Bill that the drums get lost. I also think the fills and embellishments are too far out of the pocket at times ( see 00:15 and 00:24 for examples). I'd push those back on the beat and reduce the number of times you use them -- keep the drums straighter and use fills and embellishments sparinglyonly -- that might help make this more 'submittable'.IMO, by all means submit this to a blues listing. For $5 bucks you could get a forward, and if not a listing at least a review (unless it's a yes/no listing). It's all about learning and getting better with each song...Thanks for posting thisErich* -- I have the same problem; no real studio, just a 'space' next to our family room. I can't even think of tracking through a microphone unless the family is gone, and the dogs are outside chewing on a bone so they don't bark at squirrels....We do what we gotta do in this business...

Teleblaster..Thanks for the thoughts and ideas.. The drums.. I know I know.. arrrrghh.. much of the drums in this were tapped out real time on my keyboards.. I had never planned on releasing this song in this shape.. and then BAM some people started liking it.. kind of an awkward pickle.. I don't want to screw with it while people are still listening and downloading.. i'll wait until it does a much anticipated meteoric drop from the charts over there.. the next day or two likely. I will certainly clean them up before any submissions.. Thanks for the thoughts..

I really liked the drum vibe you've got at 2:10 for sure....maybe if you're re-tracking (re-programming), work some of that in earlier too, just to set the stage.Great guitar for sure. Did you track to a click first, then do drums...or did you play overtop of the drum track?Jan 1, 2009, 9:49am, teleblaster wrote:* -- I have the same problem; no real studio, just a 'space' next to our family room. Instead of 8 months of work and $5000 to build an isolation room(s), he advises "give your family $50 and send them to the movies"

Sounds like we're all experiencing the same frustrations over the holidays: too many people around to do real recording! I like the $50 soundproofing treatment...will have to try that.Drum sound is good (although a little close mic'd); the playing just needs to be cleaned up a bit, as you already know. Guitar sounds super and I love some of the surprising harmonic underpinnings you have going on. Quite an interesting set of influences listed on your Soundclick page--I know you're a guitarist! Did you think about an organ break instead of piano? Sounds OK as is, but very understated.BTW, what do we call you? Maxwell? 333? Trip3?Vince

On this one the guitar was the last thing to be recorded except for a few organ and piano fills that followed it.I indeed need to go in and revisit the drums.. I'm using a bit of antique means on a slow ol laptop.. I guess I got lazy.. arrrrrrghhAgain, appreciate it!

I did actualy have two breaks I recorded.. one was the piano and one was the organ.. in the end I found the organ overstated in the same way the piano undesrstated.. when I finaly get some quiet around here I will be putting some sax in there so I figured the piano would be my best bet for now as there may be parts I can use later and play off of with the sax.. Now if I can only get some quiet time and some free HD space on the computer .. And you can call me max.. or 333 .. or.. well.. you should hear what they call me around home.. Thanks again for the ears and the time!

hi max!!i think this is very cool, the guitar work is quite good, i felt the drums to be disruptive to the piece--sorry, heck, early on i heard a piano (i think) keeping the pace with some simple chords, pound pound pound that seemed to my ears to work just fine--why not keep that throughout? of course i don't know squat about production/mixing, but dare we just strip out the drums?? yep, take them out, up the piano work all the way through, up the bass, and see what happens??that's all i got, i'm a rookie with this stuff, all the best, warren
