Hi guys,This wasn't for any listing in particular, but I made a couple versions of a rock instrumental and I'm not sure which, if either, would be more suitable for some application. Do you think one of these would be worthwhile submitting to an upcoming listing for rock instrumentals? Could you see it being used somewhere? "Rock On"version 1 -

AR sounds great in production and sonically to me! Everything sits very nicely in the mix. It may just be me but I'd almost like to hear some really high EQ shaved off on the whole mix (or maybe it's just the cymbals really).IMO I can see these being used in something. It has that ultra-moden alt. rock sound and production and writing is good. Good luck!

ok audio man!this must be a test, damn i've listened to each 10 x's for something valid to say...my head is spinningall i can say in the A version, it's panning is more interesting in the lead, but the cymbals seem (though i may be daft) to be a bit "cheesier, tinny?"and in the B version, more straight forward. if i had to choose, i'd pick A but with some cymbal work..damn, i'm going deaf on this one...the best, warren

Good stuff here. I'd say version A is more interesting, but, like Patrick, I think it's a bit too bright. I think it's not just in the cymbals but in the lead guitar part also. You might try pulling the 2k-4k down a bit overall; that's the range that really hurts the ears.If you can make your overall eq curve peak at ~125-250 and fall off steadily from there, you'll get that "heavy" sound very popular today.Again, overall very nice. I'm jealous man! It's not fair for you to have that voice AND guitar chops!! Just promise us you'll use your powers for good and not evil! Jonathan

Hey AudioRayne,My preference is for the second mix, especially due to the part starting at 0:24....It's nice a break from the higher pieces of the mix. However, since the eq/cymbals need to be straightened out in the first mix, it is hard to say if that could make the 1st mix the stronger of the two.As for usage, I think either has could be used perhaps in something in an action-intrigue movie scene where the audience is finding out something unknown about a character in a film by witnessing events that indicate details about the character. But that is just what came to mind.Anyway, nice work. Good Luck.Questor

AR,I'm hearing the high end harshness on #1 also. I think it's coming mainly from the lead guitar, but also possibly from the beater sound on the kick. And, yes, the crash symbol--when exposed--sounds a little "cheesy" to me.Version 2 seems to have a bit more dynamics in the song structure. But the snare(?) beating that began at around 1:02 was a little hard on the ears.I think the song could work in an action scene, for sure.Vince

Awesome, thanks for the comments folks, I'll have a go at the EQ on the cymbals and lead guitar to see if I can make them less shrill, and upload a new version.Cheers -AR
