My One Dance Song - which listing?
Morning all. In a grand experiment, I've written/recorded just one dance song and would like to do something with it. There are several upcoming listings and I'm hoping to get some advice on which to submit for. Here are shortened versions of the listings:1. UPTEMPO DANCE/ELECTRONICA SONGS WITH VOCALS are needed by a Major Video Game Developer and Manufacturer, for one of their most popular games. This is a game that revolves around dancing, so the tempo needs to be high energy and adrenaline pumping. The tempo should be approximately130 bpm and lyrics should be about dancing/moving/jumping/etc. The approach and overall tone can range from Bubblegum Dance to Eurodance & everything in between...2. ROCKTRONICA/ELECTRO ROCK/DANCE ROCK SONGS AND INSTRUMENTALS along the lines of Taxi Doll, Danger Radio, LCD Soundsystem, Datarock, etc. are wanted by a very successful Video Game production company. If you submit a song with vocals, you'll need to make absolutely certain that thelyrics are clean and appropriate for all ages. If you submit instrumentals, be sure the tracks have enough dynamic build/momentum/shifting energy to keep interest...3. DANCE/EUROBEAT SONGS AND INSTRUMENTALS are needed by an Independent Record Label for a Compilation CD project that will be released by a Major Distributor. This company has signed dozens of TAXI writers for use on projects distributed by Sony/BMG, Universal, EMI, etc. You can think in the range of U96, Masterboy, 2 Unlimited, etc. for direction -but this company will consider all approaches in this particular style/genre...And here's the song:http://www.broadjam.com/transmit/index. ... =========A quick yes/no, genre advice, or detailed critique would be appreciated. Thanks much!Vince

Re: My One Dance Song - which listing?
Hi Vince,Good experimentation. My thoughts:Your track is not energetic enough for the first (considering it needs to be "high energy and adrenaline pumping"). Also, the vocals are a little bit too "meaningful" for the listing requirements, which are all about moving/jumping/etc. Question: can you imagine it in a dance-based video game? My exposure to them has been that the music tends to be much more beat-driven. FYI, an off-beat bass usually works really well to up the energy, as do off-beat synth stabs etc.The third listing is after something different completely - have a read of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurobeat and listen to some of the record labels. I think this listing is going to have a very high bar because the tracks are for compilations, not as background music, so they really need to stand out.In my opinion, your track probably suits the second listing the most, although whether or not it would get forwarded I wouldn't hazard a guess. Some advice - try to distinguish between "electronica" and "dance music", and remember that whilst the second may sometimes be a subgenre of the first, the genres are as large and diverse as any, with their own subgenres and subsubgenres etc. Check this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_el ... sic_genres Many of these are flash-in-the-pan, but others have some pedigree with large global followings.Good start though IMO.tt

Hi Vince,I like the tune.. good production, performances, and playing all around. What I think is crucial to qualify for those listings would be to tweak your drum part and sounds. Maybe some kind of crazy big kick to pound out that four-on-the-floor that you already have. The drums sounds very live to me.Now how to achieve that sound.. I wish I could tell you! ha ha... I think you could take it there though. Good luck man!

Maybe check out the some of the Modernbeats.com stuff... it's more suited to hip-hop but they're super high quality stuff and I'm thinking they might work for dance too.

Thanks for your recommendations tt--Wiki is a good resource that I often forget about and I'll probably go with your idea on submitting for #2.Patrick--you gave me a good idea. Originally this song had the 4-on-the-floor programmed drums, so I should probably submit that version here (not the one you heard).Vince

Vince,I really like the song, but I don't think it fits any of these listings. It seems a bit more 'old-school' to me .. almost like a FOOTLOOSE song .. from the 1984 movie .. maybe a bit 'newer' than that, but in that vein .. more pop-dance. Dean

I like the song, but as Dean said, I don´t think it sound current. I would save it for another listing or submit it to one of these just to get critique.Kind regards

Re: My One Dance Song - which listing?
Thanks William, dean, lindpop. I still like the song but am now thinking I'll have to save it for yet another non-current/"retro" listing. Footloose is an interesting comparison. Didn't I just hear they're going to remake that? Maybe...V>
