Hey my friends. I've been working on this for about 5 days. My ears are ringing like crazy and I'd appreciate some perspective on the mix. Thanks much. Here's the tunehttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=1901 ... trueHere's the lyricsTook A Shine To YouShe's kinda skinny but she's got big feetHer nails are strong but her eyes are weakIt's just as well that she can't see meShe doesn't know that she's datin' a geekI met her walkin' through the park one dayShe was lost, I had ta show her the wayShe don't know it but I'm here to stayIf she'd just give me a chance I'd like to say(Chorus)I took a shine to youWe're gonna make it through yaThere's just some things you know are trueI took a shine to youShe screams and hollers like a bird of preyShe got those nails tries ta tear me ta shredsI fend her off, try ta keep my headAfter it's over try ta get her in bedThe walls are thin the neighbors don't complainSometimes it feels like we're goin' insaneShe's a first rate lover with a bad migraineNevertheless I don't complain(Chorus) Well I got me a master planI'll try to get her on an airplaneWe'll fly to Vegas, buy some cheap ringsWhen I get her there I'll say just one thingI took a shine to you(Solo)(Chorus out)

That was really off the hook. you outta be on stage, hell i'd come and see ya.A BTO voice, Huey Lewis sound, little Fats Waller in the lyrics, and a big band sound.See this is what i am so mistified about. You guys; pros, semi-pros, performing artists and so on; it's just outside the box for me to think you all have full 5-20 piece back up studio musicians waiting around for you to decide to put down a track.Really, how many people did this song? Or, was it one of those multi track pro-tools cuts and you did it all?Amazing. My hats off. I only wish i could do something like that.Doc

damn elser ... I'd love to watch this band groove live ... are you the band?I see it as something ol' tom jones could grab a hold of and turn into a big F^cking deal ....I love it man.but ..... mix wise .... it's pretty hot on the top end and not so hot on the low end. good mid tho.I hear the bass and I sorta get the kick but I don't feel either one and I sure wish I did cus that'd make this mix complete. I think ... hell, how do I know, the song ain't done yet ....nice pans on the lead guitar fills - tho to me, it's either too hard panned during the vocals or maybe it's just hot ... or maybe you need to move it around in the mix to let it stand so hot - but having it sooo right eared kinda imbalanced the mix ....ohhh and on that first listen, the outro fade blew chunks ... either kill it or fade it but fading to kill it sucks.back to it, listen 2 ... horns ... hell yeah ... great intro - and perfect horn levels and sound. did I mention that I want to feel the bass?love the snare sound and the level - right there with the lead vocal like it ought to be ... horns in the cooking chorus are spot on ... love the standard fare of the verses vocally, what a great singer ... well, hell, he ain't great but he has great personality ... and he's technically friggin on. lyrically, I don't care for the bridge ... sorta not ya know ... but musically it's tight. otherwise the words are right - nothing special but that's really not what this style is about ... I get that. and the words otherwise work well, sound good and flow real well ... a few little things there ... that's about it. impressive all in all ... needs a little cosmetic surgery and a tummy tuck on the bridge but otherwise, you got it.to be honest, you've got me interested in some of your other material if this is your band and not a session gig. I have a soft spot for the robert palmer/ tom jones thing ... guess cus deep inside, I'd like to do some of it myself ....but listening to this was vicariously cool.

cj, you're crackin me up. You nailed some of the stuff I'd been questioning dead on. I'm having trouble getting the low end where I want it. After much experimentation I'm kinda thinking it's just the key of the tune, it's in C so those open E strings and A strings just aren't there that much. I tried hyping the bass at around 100hz and below but it just started sounding unnatural. Also having a hard time getting the lead guitar to sit in the mix just right. I've got a reverb bus setup and all the instruments except the bass have a little of it, so it sounds like a bunch of people in the same room, but the lead guitar just won't blend for some reason.Maybe the panning thing is the problem.Good call on the fade problem as well but I'm not quite sure I understood what your saying. Maybe you could clarify? I'm also curious, what are you listening on?
