first draft of a classic rock song ala the Byrdshere's the songhttp://www.billgaunce.com/song/95I couldn't really tackle the alas mentioned but it does say "etc." so i'm hoping the Byrds would be an "etc." I know I've got vocals to fix and that the mix pulls to the right (my deaf side!). hear anything else that's a quick fix? I'll have about 2hrs. to work on it tomorrow & that's all. Thanks Oh, Here's the listing 60s/70s-influenced ORIGINAL CLASSIC ROCK SONGS a la "Somebody To Love"by Jefferson Airplane, "People Are Strange" or "Break On Through"by The Doors, "I Can See For Miles" by The Who, "Crossroads"by Cream, etc. are wanted by the Executive Producer and Music Supervisor for an Indie Film set during the Vietnam War. These song references are similar to thetone, tempo and overall approach that they're looking for - but they don'tneed specific "soundalikes" for this one. They merely want original Classic Rock songs that sound authentic to the era and are mid to uptempo. The performances should be very much like listening to the "real deal" - if your song is playing over a radio in the movie, could we mistake it for one of the artists referenced above? They need quite a few great songs that fit squarely into the 60s/70s sound and they'd love to hear some edgy lyrics - sex, drugs, rock -n- roll. That said, they'll be open to any lyric content - just keep in mind that the primary characters are male soldiers in the Vietnam War and the story revolves loosely around the events of that time. Male or female vocals are fine, but male will be preferableunless the female vocal is in the style of Janis Joplin or Signe Anderson (JeffersonAirplane). Broadcast Quality is required, but the recordings/production can be quite simple - they don't need to sound too polished for this one. Capturingthe requested era, vibe, tone and approach will make the biggest difference here.Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screenedon a YES/NO BASIS - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than Noon PST on Tuesday, October 14, 2008.

Damn Bill, your a friggin genius man.The sound is the Byrds all the way. Im no expert on the film listings but that guitar sound is 1000% dead accurate. I heard the pan problem. should be easy to fix just sit backwards in your mixing chair. (sorry bro i couldnt resist)Vocally just a slight rework on the melody/harmony levels. If I remember, the byrds mixes were just slightly loud in the guitar mix and the vocals were low in the mix but that could be my perception.You captured that sound of the era for sure. I was 5 at the end of Vietnam but i remember the music well.No other things jumped at me.M~

Man, it really hurts that I have a twelve string electric framus that's being worked on. I've got a good friend with a 12 string ric but just don't have the time to hook up with him. Thanks for the compliment Steve, it's good to hear you say that because sometimes I feel like i'm burnin' out.Thanks you also Matt. This might be a stretch for what they're looking for but I think after I fix the mix & vocals it'll at least be a solid 60's sounding track. Bound to come in handy somewhere down the line.

bill--very byrds man, only neg i have is the still rough mix (vocaks bring up, duh) and a few of the lyrics (bridge) i don't quite get those three lines and the disjointed meaning (ok, i do "get" it, i used to write allot of poetry, albeit crappy...) so i think i know what you're doing, but i'd make it a tad clearer, what you're really going for there. just a bit obtuse, but i'm on my first cup o joe...and NOT joe 6 friggin' pack...!great job,warrenother than that, hero...hell, you've been there a long time for heinsite

Geez Warren, I can't believe YOU of all people are gonna make me explain my lyrics!!!!!!Ok buddy, here goes;"overhead, the sound of freedom rings out" = Jets, helicopters, etc. "overtime everybody seems to forget" = a reference to making the same mistakes over, and over, and overI'm gonna cut you some slack because it's early but these lyrics are pretty straightforward to me. I live near Oceana Air Base and when ever the locals complain about the jet noise the hawks fire back " that's the sound of freedom bubba", So whenever we're on the phone or yelling across the lawns at each other & a jet flies over we jokingly say "hold on a minute, the sound of freedom is drowning you out". In fact, I had to stop a couple of vocal takes because the "sound of freedom" was shaving my buzz!
