Hey guy's....First of (3) Smooth Jazz Pieces for placement in Shops,Restaurants, and malls.....Please Critique.Thanks...Jay....http://www.taximusic.com/download/18051 ... .mp3SMOOTH JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS a la Brian Culbertson, Paul Brown, Dave Koz, Najee, the Yellowjackets, etc. are again wanted by an Independent Music Publisher for placement in Muzak-type applications (shops, restaurants, malls, etc.). He's signed and placed many TAXI songs in the past. All tempos will be considered, but mid-tempo pieces are the easiest to place for this type of application. Performances should sound as if they're recorded by live musicians, so be careful to make sure that your sounds aren't too slick for this one. He really wants to find excellent Smooth Jazz and isn't interested in New Age or any other genre/style. Please keep your songs under 4 minutes in length. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. Hey R-Man,Very nice track! I heard a bit of overdrive in the guitar solo but couldn't be sure if that was maybe the Rhodes (is that a Rhodes?) in the background or not. Or if it was intentional. Caught my ears though.It's got a nice groove, seems peppy and cheerful. Don't know about the 'live' sound, though, sounds studio produced ta me. Not sure the best way to go about creating that live sound except through live drum loops, etc, if you not goin with live musicians. I think that'd be the only thing that might slow you on the way to a forward. It's a very nice, well done track.

Hey Jay, I don't know much about the alas but this certainly sounds like "muzak smooth jazz" to me. I think you could give it a bit more of a "live band" feel if you could add a little room size to the drums and then just a tinee, tiny bit of the right room size to the whole mix. Just an idea. Cool piece, you're a smooth dude!

Jay,Nice feel and sounds. But I can only tell you what I would do .... a) a simpler and more distinct melody for verse and chorus. b) change up the conga beat (or some other aspect) of the chorus to differentiate - aka "lift" . c) Good guitar sound -- from your midi piano, right? - but it's played like a piano. (I heard subtle differences, certain licks and phrases that are NOT normally guitar stuff.) b) there is (to my ear) an oddity or something at 2:08 ... sounds like a splice .. where the chord changes don't flow right. But that's all my 2 cents in opinion .. and worth every (deflated) penny!

I'm not an expert at jazz, but I do like this. It sounds authentic (live), like they are requesting. I would expect to hear something like this played live at a restaurant, so it feels like a fit to me. Nice playing!

It's not my genre, but I can picture it when I'm supposed to be buying stuff for sure. It doesn't sound too syth to me, as it sounds tight/loose enough to be live players, but in a dry environment. I would imagine it's going to be piped through the mall PA anyway. I wish I had definitive advice for it, other than get back in that chair and finish the other two songs before the deadline gets here .

Hey Roadrunner422!Not 100% sure, but your MIDI guitar may give you away. But who knows, I've been wrong on that count before, and I see this is being screened by the client, so ya' may be safe. Sorry Jay, can't call it either way. Interested in finding out the results though. Let us know when ya' get some feedback. I-468PS --Was gonna try this listing, but didn't think my MIDI sax would be convincing enough. Maybe I'll get a hold of that new virtual sax software that Mazz posted about. Yeah...that's it!
