EYES OF LOVE/ smooth jazz # (2) critique please

Post by jay10music » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:47 pm

HI GUY'S ....Here's the second and last smooth jazz track for the smooth jazz listing..I think I got it a little better than the first one. This one took me (12) hours of grueling tension, trying to stay smooth.. Please tell me if I captured the Vibe..Or will these smoothers end up in the heap along side that Latino song that bombed the big one.. Sorry I haven't been on your posts lately. These 2 songs took the wind out of my sails.. Thanks ....Jay... P.S. IS IT TO HOT FOR THE MIX ??http://www.taximusic.com/download/18108 ... mental.mp3

IS IT TO HOT FOR THE MIX ??http://www.taximusic.com/download/18108 ... l.mp3We've all been there R-Man...ear-fatigue-sore-butt-carpel-tunnel-wha?!?My wife found me asleep at the desk last week!I'm liking your tune...the part around 1:00 and again at 1:41 really seemed "smooooovest".I'm wondering if you can make the drums a a bit more plain/acoustic? I found the snare/hats a bit techno (I'm only using a cheap soundcard right now with headphones though...so my $0.02 = "grain of salt time").Maybe just take the drums down a little, and bring that guitar up slightly to fill in?Sounding good Jay...I don't know the genre well enough to speak to the techno elements with authority though. I'd spend your $5 in a heartbeat on it as is Cheers...

Nice Groove!! I would tighten up the snare and make it pop then bring up the background percussion (congas). Guitar could stand a little more presence and the bass drum and bass could come up a bit IMO. Is that a real Rhodes? It sure sounds like it.Kitz

hey r-man--told you i'd be baaack-this is very cool, very smooth (see cam in the dictionary--a pix of gravy himself man!) and i don't hear anything this non-musician ear can tell 'ya--i dig it!ok, when the guitar comes in later, i'd up the eq on it, make it sing to us just a little more as the soloist. i think it's right at about 1:40--very cool guitar, my preference is to hear it LOUDER! but hey, what the hell do i know about cool jazz?love the way you ended it, way cool, that's all i got, the best to you my friend, warren

THANKS DARLIN'S FOR LISTENING.......I tried to listen very carefully to one of the reference artists tracks "PAUL BROWN" and I found that tunes have a lot of reverb on there instruments and that they sound more in the back ground then up front. But the drum is more dominant. So that's what I tried 2 capture here. That cool Island Smooth Jazz Sound.. SMOOTH AS A GRAVY SANDWICH......I SHOULD NAME THIS SONG THAT...CAM... RHodes....I don't think so......MOTIF DUDES...Love Yah's....Jay Man... SMOOTH JAZZ INSTRUMENTALS a la Brian Culbertson, Paul Brown, Dave Koz, Najee, the Yellowjackets, etc. are again wanted by an Independent Music Publisher for placement in Muzak-type applications (shops, restaurants, malls, etc.). He's signed and placed many TAXI songs in the past. All tempos will be considered, but mid-tempo pieces are the easiest to place for this type of application. Performances should sound as if they're recorded by live musicians, so be careful to make sure that your sounds aren't too slick for this one. He really wants to find excellent Smooth Jazz and isn't interested in New Age or any other genre/style. Please keep your songs under 4 minutes in length. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI - and must be received no later than October 29, 2008.

Hey Jay this is a cool track! Of course we never know how picky they will be on the points in the listing but I can tell the bass & drums aren't live musicians. Don't really know what advice to offer to make it more like "live" musicians. Although it's not one of the alas whenever I hear a groove in this ballpark I always think the definitive example for bass & percussion working tightly together is this-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtZ2zPJoUu8

beep beepYou know I think you are the greatest. I know nothing about jazz. It sounds tight to me.Did a lil experiment. Hope you don't get angry?Cranked my puter speakers, ran in muted the TV and selected the weather channel's local weather report. Absolutely a perfect fit. Even a mood change when is showed snow on the radar.Ya see, that is what I heard. Hope it does not offend you.Really liked the sound.Paul

Funny you should mention that. I love Bob James. The album "One on One" by him and Earl Klugh is one of my favorites of all time, but last time I tried to listen to it it sounded like the Weather Channel to me. Cam
