The Taxi Guru's often say we shouldn't mention place or people's names in the lyric or title.I was wondering if this is too place specific. It's a Celtic Ballad.(Someday I'll Return)There's a circle of stone near where I come fromAnd nobody knows why it's been there so longIt has weathered the storm and kept back the fernAnd when I think of sweet Isla someday I'll returnThrere's a boat coming in on a westerly breezeAnd it's riding the swell like it's part of the seaOh I wish I was sailing on the crest of that waveThen soon I'd be home in the port of escageThere's a white washed farm house o'er Lagan BayWith a peat fire burning on this cold winters dayTo see old friends and family I do truly yearnWhen I think of sweet Isla some day I'll returnIf I was a bird over ocean I'd soarAnd fly to that fabled wild Scotish shoreWhere a celidh can take the edge off the coldAnd a dance by a bonfire is a sight to beholdThough its still in my thoughts I"m so far awayBut the times getting closer and closer each daySoon this dull city life i will truly spurnAnd when I think of sweet Isla I know I'll returnwww.mickgaughan.comsorry don't know how to link the songIt's a collab I done a couple of years ago.Dave Coe LyricVocals Ffion WilkinsMusic Me

Pretty song. Is it too specific? It depends on the genre and type of pitch. In general, for film/TV the less specific the better-- people's names, geographical locations all can make it tougher. But Celtic ballad is a more narrow genre so you MIGHT have more leeway- if they are looking for that to start with, it might be OK. Just a thought, without the written lyrics in front of me-- Could you change the references to Ireland to something more generic?Dave Coe is an old friend of mine from the tonos.com days. Please tell him I say hi!! Casey

Nah this is fine IMHO. In general place specific songs are less of a problem that name specific ones (like love songs with a name in them), unless it's REALLY specific...let's say an ode to Hoboken New Jersey would have very limited applications .Of course anytime your lyric has anything place specific in it it will limit its applications, but it may also make it more desirable for certain applications.I do think this song would have more uses if the arrangement and sound of it was more traditional Celtic in nature to better match the lyric, and less generic pop. In my experience, nine times out of ten when a lyric with Celtic imagery is called for, a more obvious Celtic sound in the music would also be desirable.Just something to think about...matto
