I think I'm going instru-mental! ;)

Post by zoom » Fri Oct 03, 2008 9:38 am

Hey all!Ok... so my ears are a bit fried after this one, and don't think I got the mix 100% here. But I'll unleash it anyway and see what you think. There are a number of listings that I think this one could fit into... but the question that I have for you is:Do you think this could be considered for Sports Instrumentals or Action/Adventure? I realize that I would need to refocus this particular song... but if I moved the electric guitar section up to come in at about :30 in or earlier, do you think this has a shot? I may also need to revamp the strings to be more "high action," but that's fairly straight forward.http://www.taximusic.com/download/17390 ... ayou.mp3or if you don't want to download.... it's called Blue Bayou at my taxi page...http://www.taxi.com/patellweinThanks guys, and hope you enjoy it!

Zoom,I think this is a nicely done track. But I don't hear it as a Sports Instrumental, even with the string revamp. To me it is just to minor sounding to fit that style. However, I could maybe hear it as an Action/Advenutre but you would definitely have to kick it up a few notches in terms of the impact and intensity. It does have some nice tension and I could definitely hear it working in a film segment just the way it is. Just my 2 cents. Hope this helps.Kurt

hi zoomster--i dig the guitar sounds here, sounds more like a movie soundtrack or bed thing to me though even when it amps up, just isn't "action" packed. dig the bells too BTW. to my ears the highs note or two on the elec. guitar early on sound just a bit, well "high" eq? and perhaps a just a bit too much reverb? and i'm saying that without hearing ANY music on phones today, ears are fresh, not listening to some clown singing about another friggin day! LOL, inside joke folks...oh also the bells later on in 2nd listen just a tad high as well?but i dig this, very well done, i wouldn't change any of the actual instrumentation at all, just listen again to the highs i mention in the mix. of course, you know me, i may be off...again, this is very very nice for many listings, just not IMHO for this one, but it's a keeper!the best, warrenPS: just read kurt's post, and yep, we both agree it's fine as is, just not for this listing--it's too good to mess with just for this one IMHO....

Thanks Warren.... yeah... kind of started out as a cinematic spy theme -- trying to put a time and place on it through instrumentation more than trying to fit it into any particular listing... some days, you have to go where the muse takes you. Thanks for the comments!

Hey There Zoom. I think when it kicks in (around 1:40) that it could easily be Action/Adventure from that point if maybe just sped up a little. I've only had a few instrumental forwards so you should probably listen to my advice with a grain of salt. It's a very cool track though & it damn sure it's goingt to be good for something!

Thanks Bill! Yeah, as I was developing it I had to actually pull back and figure out how to focus it better -- decided to do an even split of each different instrumentation as a way to gauge which worked better... but I liked both! If I were to try this for action though, I would definitely bring up the kicked in version a lot sooner and do more with the strings and percussion.... and I also might have to do more with rhythm guitar, but that might mean actually using a REAL guitar!
