I would like to introduce myself. My name is Tom Shea and I am a relatively new songwriter from Nebraska. I write songs in two areas: country and tween pop. I found Taxi through my participation in JPF. There are a lot of people there who are strong believers in the usefulness of Taxi. Based on the many recommendations I joined Taxi last weeek and have made a few submissions. If anyone is interested, I would appreciate you listening to A Serious Thing at my taxi site:

Hey Tom... welcome!Sounds like a pretty good traditional piano bar country song.... a good one to drink to!Not sure if it's the compression on the file or the mix (or my ears for that matter), but I think it needs some refinement -- not a TON here -- before you'll pass the bar for a film/tv listing. It just doesn't sound as slick and clean as what is expected, I think. However, this is a good demo to showcase your song!However.... you might want a clean ending.... the fade is a little abrupt, and this song calls for a little button on it!Can you post the lyrics for this bad boy?

hi tom, welcome!i like it allot--it's in the traditional vein for sure. i hear this as maybe not quite ready for the high bar very tough country listings, but film maybe. the reason is the lyrics, they are a bit on the general side. i hear a very good traditional vibe here, almost a bit of elvis, no?the little bridge you have, i'd make it longer, just double or triple it (the time will uncover tomorrow, etc), off the top of my head.A Serious Thing is very good title, what i'd personally like to hear is a bit more down home examples of why it's a serious thing, tends to be very general in theme, which is usually turned down by the screeners as not "story" enough. (in my submissions anyway to the c/w genre)i'd also like to hear more of a rythme with "thing" in the chorus/hook/title line, didn't notice in two listens any rythming with it at all--that would help.that's all i got for now, very nice startwarren(i'll attach below what i think is fairly traditional, that hasn't gotten anywhere yet with the screeners, just as a reference point only--i'm not giving up on it! it's a demo, as i can't play nor sign well enough! too old...

I very much appreciate you all listening. The comments are very thoughtful and helpful. Thanks much. I co-wrote this song with Bill Creel. Bill sang and performed the song at his 10 Acre Recording Studio. As requested, here are the lyrics. A Serious Thingc/ 2008 Thomas Shea and Bill CreelI’m tired of chances;Throwing life to the wind.Seeking only new beginnings.Finding disappointing ends.It might not be anything. It might be something true.It might be believing again. This could be a serious thing.Young enough to want a change of seasons;Old enough to face the truth.I should be looking for salvation. All the things I find in you.It might not be anything. It might be something true.It might be believing again. This could be a serious thing.Instrumental BreakI never saw it coming.Didn’t see you standing there.Need to make my decision,Choosing love or despair. It might not be anything. It might be something true.It might be believing again. This could be a serious thing.Time will uncover tomorrow.Tell us who we’ve been.Might not be anythingIt might be something true.It might be believing again. This could be a serious thing.Might not be anythingIt might be something true.It might be believing again. This could be a serious thing.

Heinsite, I agree with your reference to Elvis - I heard that also when I got the demo back from Bill Creel (who sang it). Thanks for the other comments as well - very helpful for a new writer like me. I sure appreciate it. Tom
