Where Would I Be Without Cass?

As many of you have probably figured out, I've been enjoying collaborating with Cass over the last several months. His superb mixing and arranging expertise compensate for a large void in my skill set. Anyway, I could continue to collaborate with Cass indefinitely, but I don't want to remain ignorant about mixing forever so I forced my self to spend some time mixing a short instrumental cue I composed and recorded. I would love your feedback on any aspect of this but especially mixing, drums and how to make the track build better. Thanks in advance!

Just noticed my MIDI bass misfired several times when I rendered the track - should have frozen it first. Sorry - please try to ignore that.

Thanks for pointing that out, Andy. I had forgotten the correct way to share a private sound. Should work now.

I like the track.
i think the build works.
the bass needs a lot of work note wise as you mentioned. it also gets louder when you play higher notes. a little grit on the bass might help it sit a little better.
guitars are fine. Cymbal crashes sound a little high in the dynamic range, like they are really being punished. I think I would have them trigger at a lower velocity.
and the end......so is that major guitar hum in the track? like your guitar sim or whatever you are using accentuates hum that is already there? gotta work a solution to that one.
overall sounding nice though.

Thanks for the shoutout Dan!
I agree with Andy, I think you are headed in the right direction.
Before I built my room, I was limited on how often I could turn up the volume to really hear tonal qualities
I'm guessing you are going through the same situation at your place
We just keep doing the best we can!

Good work, Dan.
Experts know better, but I know enough to know you're way better than me, and that I'd be proud of this.
Well done, that man.

New mix:

Andy: Thanks for lending your ears. I reworked the bass, lowered the velocity on cymbal crashes, and put a limiter on that hum. I also replaced the tambo with a heavier sounding one and played with the guitar EQ.
Cass: It's hard to mix my own stuff after hearing you mix my stuff. My neighbors would tell you they can hear the tonal qualities just fine.
Jeff and Nick: Thanks for your kind words!

I like it a lot!
Hard to come up with fresh takes on simple guitar riffs. Like yours! I would say,IMO, that the guitars a little hot, isn't it??
