:30 Second Country Without Twang Spot!!!

It seems these listing are coming up more and more. I love 30 second spots because I can knock them out in about 4 hours and move on!!

I have to admit though, this listing was a little challenging... they wanted a "Country song without twang!" lol That's like asking for Led Zeppelin without guitars lol..

Well I gave it my best shot... I just submitted it today so I'll let y'all know if it gets forwarded... what you guys think? Too much twang?? lol

Song is called ... "Take It to the Riverbank" You can hear it on my taxi page.

Original Listing:

Positive, Optimistic, Mid-to-Up-Tempo CONTEMPORARY COUNTRY INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS are U-R-G-E-N-T-L-Y needed by a Film/TV Music Publisher for a Bank Commercial. Quoting the Ad Agency that requested the Tracks: "I need some sophisticated thirty-second, Modern Country music (without any country twang) to brand a bank here in Texas."

We know that doesn't give you much to work with, but if you think about it, this is actually pretty easy to figure out! Whether they realize it or not, what they're asking for is a Mid-to-Up-Tempo Contemporary Country Track that has bass, drums, acoustic rhythm guitar, electric rhythm guitar, possibly some piano, and some electric guitar parts playing a simple, but very hooky melody that won't get in the way of the voice over or dialog.

We don't recommend sending a rhythm track that started out as a song, but with the vocals muted. You're going to need to give them a melody part to make it catchy, but unobtrusively so!
Check out the CHORUS of Florida Georgia Line's, This Is How We Roll ft. Luke Bryan.

Check out the CHORUS of Taylor Swift's, Just Another Picture to Burn. Note the guitar lick at the end of the chorus... that's what we're talking about! Give them a guitar hook that becomes the Track's signature.
Check out the CHORUS of Billy Currington's, We are Tonight. Notice how uplifting and anthemic it is? How about giving them some of that feel?!!
Obviously, they're not looking for anything that copies or mimics any of those songs, but you can use them to triangulate and zero in on what Modern Country sounds like. Nothing too twangy, and all those songs have a positive, empowering, optimistic feel and energy going on. Give THAT to the Publisher and Ad Agency, and they'll love you for life!

They didn't specify that they need buttoned or stinger endings, but we think you'd have an edge if you do. And please make sure your Track is done in 29.5 seconds, instrument and reverb ring out included! Why not make it easy for them? ;-)

Though the examples we gave have vocals, don't forget they need an Instrumental for this pitch. But if you want to include some vocalizations like "oh ay oh's," go for it! Make it the thing that carries your melodic hook, but keep it sparse enough that it won't step on the voice over or dialog. Broadcast Quality is needed (great sounding home recordings are fine).

Fuller,
Loved the energy on this track and i think the guitar hook is nice. I just can't figure out what they meant about "country without twang". Maybe more of the country rhythm and guitar riffs which can be heard on your track. I am just imaging how it would turn out voiced over a bank advertisement. :)

P.S. Surprised to know you worked with Phil Keagy sometime ago. My brother and I loved the "Hourglass" CD way back in our college days and listening to it til now.

Hey Divino,

Yeah the country without twang thing is hilarious! But hey, they have Gluten Free bread so why not?

When I lived in Nashville, I became friends with Phil and his family. Everyone knows Phil as a killer legendary guitarist... but what I discovered is that he is even more so a legendary human soul. He is one of the nicest most humble people you will ever meet. His generosity was unlike no one I've ever been around in the business as well. He is truly a great guy and deserving of all his accolades! It was a blast getting to work with him on a the song for the Hour Glass CD. "You Whisper Something" came out great! Glad you enjoy it! He is truly a modern living legend! (I was simply tagging along on the crumbs of his greatness... I was blessed to have been a part of it!

Hi Fuller,

I think you nailed the "country without twang" requirement. Seems to me like it might be a bit too edgy perhaps for a bank commercial, but who knows? It's pretty hard to get into their heads and know exactly what kind of attitude they're looking for. Nice work though!

Thanks guys! It did get forwarded, which is always good news!

But I know these listings are hard to land so I'll keep my fingers crossed and keep working!!!

If anything, it was fun recording a real guitar part for a change! Lol

Nice track; congrats on the forward.
Probably a lot easier where you are to get some country-fied music into a church/worship setting;
around these parts it's like rolling a big rock up a steep hill... even with limited twang. :?

Interesting comment re Phil.
A producer/friend of mine (David Harris) not too long ago completed work on the collab of Phil Keaggy and Micky Dolenz...
the CD is called "Remember"; check it out on You Tube, if you like.
Micky has some seriously seasoned/good vocal chops (for an old Monkee, that is!! :? :) )

Cheers.
