Haunting?

Hey everyone. I'm new on the forums although I've been a part of Taxi for a while. I've read through many, many threads but have just started to post! I've gotten a few forwards in other genres but thought I take a stab at some instrumentals. I was wondering if this simple instrumental "An End In Sight" would fit for this listing:New Listing HAUNTING MUSIC IN ANY GENRE/STYLE - similar to the soundtrack for the film "Mulholland Drive" - is needed by an established Independent Music Publisher. This Publisher has tons of Film/TV placements and has signed dozens of TAXI writers. He is open to any genre or style, as long as the overall tone and mood is haunting. Another reference might be "Twin Peaks", but he's not looking for music quite as quirky as what's in that film. He'd like to hear slight overtones of Arabic music, similar to the soundtracks that have been referenced above. Songs with vocals and instrumentals will both be considered. Excellent performances are necessary and the recordings must be broadcast quality. The President of this company will be screening the submissions himself. This company splits the license fee with you 40/60 [that 60% is for you] and doesn't take any publishing. I listend to the Mulholland song and it's pretty sparse and slow-moving (although I only listened to 30 seconds on itunes). Thanks! Here's the song:

Hey man Okay, this interesting accident happened.....perused your listing very quickly and actually mistook your song for the Mulholland song, right? So I'm listening to it going "yeah, I can see how that would work for a murder/mystery/haunting type thing". So I say yes. But really you should hear from other folks who didn't screw this whole thing up from lack of sleep.

hey man!Well.... I think something like this could definitely work for haunting.... in a dark and mysterious way. Though I will admit that I don't really like the breathy synth as the sound ends a bit abruptly when you release the keys making it a little herky-jerky, IMO. If the release could ring out a bit more, that would make my ears a little happier.... but yes, overall I do like this piece and think it could fit well with the listing!

Hello Mancave,What I'm hearing is a sad ending of a love story. This may be because I'm not hearing the effects that you in the background. If it doesn't get forwarded for haunting I would suggest hanging on to it for just such a posting as sad love song.Jeff

Wow, thanks for all your feedback! I know it's not the most interesting song to sit down and listen to for 2 minutes so I appreciate you taking your time. I want to keep working on instrumentals because I know there's a good market for it. I'll continue searching this forum so I can get a better idea of what's expected. Thanks again!

Hey Mancave,Nice track. Liked the overall feel. Maybe it will work for "haunting" but if not then definately keep it ready for other opportunities such as new age, relaxing etc.A couple of points; for haunting I thought it maybe was not dark enough, but that's just a matter of taste. I'm thinking of the Twin Peaks music, both the main theme and the incidental pieces. In Twin Peaks the music was somewhat mellow but it carried a dark undercurrent and in some cases it was just darn right evil sounding....Also Zoom already pointed out the release of some of the notes on the instrument playing the main theme seemed a bit too fast.Of course all of the above is just my $0.02 I could be full of it Anyways I wish you all the best with thisDerek

Hi - finally got a change to listen to this. I think it has some nice textures. I find the release & start of the synth feels a bit mechanical. What I think is missing to make it "haunting" is more bass. I suggest doubling up some lines - in other words, add some very low tones an octave below your main synth. Or, make it even more haunting by making the lower tone a 7th below. In terms of sound quality, I've got my speakers on high & it's not that loud. I'd bring your main volume up. At the mo I'd say it's 'atmospheric and perhaps a little dark' but not haunting. Good work, tho!

I, too have problems with the note tails; it sounds like a compressor shutting down, and not in a nice way. You could disguise it with reverb, but better to adress the problem at the source. I'm with Hummingbird as to the feel; perhaps a low pipe organ note might add more of an atmosphere of dread. You've got a nice feel goin', there.
