Well, I'm guessing that subject got your attention!

First, full disclosure, I am a newb to this forum, any forum for that matter, a board, posting, all of it. Have never done it before, so please forgive all ignorant posts that I do. I have read all FAQs and Rules, but I will be in a big 'ol learning curve here, so please be patient with me and apologies if I am doing it wrong.

I have a final master of the song GOOD LOVE MAKIN' for your feedback. This is not a demo and I had intended this recording specifically for film/TV sync opps only. However, I have gotten some comments regarding possible artist cuts. Could you please answer the following three questions for me:

1. What genre do you say this recording of GOOD LOVE MAKIN' is?

2. What artist(s) does it sound like to you?

3. If I were to pitch for artist cuts, what artist(s) do you suggest I pitch?

After all of your caveats, I was not expecting the polished professional production I heard! Wow! You really know what you're doing!



What I heard:

a) the production sounds a little flat, unexcited, not dynamic - the vocal doesn't sound like the 'star' to me. FWIW.

and

b.) the strings in their first entrance sound slightly out of tune to my ear. Not horribly, and I can't tell you which note(s) (I would guess the F - the minor third - but not sure).

Your track is so good that these are pretty picky criticisms!

<edit>: I see I didn't answer your specific questions. I will respond to what I can:

1.) genre: this arrangement sounds like straight up AC to me. The song sounds very adaptable. I could hear it done as country, or more pop, or even rock.

2.) + 3.) don't know what artist it sounds like or who to pitch to..sorry. I can hear several AC types of artists singing it. Particularly female. </edit>

I appreciate what you said about the mix and the strings -- yes, live string quartet, so yes, there will be some slight tuning human issues there for sure. And thank you for going back and specifically answering my questions. I was just about to post and ask if you might be able to answer those questions, but you already beat me to it! Now, if I can just get some more responses from others? Hopefully more will reply, as I really need feedback on those questions (posting again for others below):

Nice tune! Here are my answers:

1) I hear THIS recording as Adult Contemporary, but not too far off from being modern country
2) Not sure who it sounds like.
3) I hear the song working better as a modern country song rather than AC, to be honest. And yes, if the lyrics work for a female, I definitely could hear it working musically - Sugarland, Miranda Lambert, even Reba? My 2 cents...

I agree with all the previous comments. You seem to want more input so I felt like chiming in here.

Nothing additional to say from me other than keep the door open to pitch this to Film/TV placements even if you pitch to artist listings.

fwiw: right from the Intro it reminds me of Foreigner's "I Wanna Know What Love Is";
then the strings/fiddles take a Country-ish turn...
gonna go back and listen to some more of it, and other tracks you've got posted.

It's an amazing, well-written and performed track, but I think in today's environment, it's demo quality; it could benefit from some real strings and a few arrangement tricks. (some stops, or maybe a breakdown) I wouldn't be ashamed of putting it in front of http://www.jerrodniemannofficial.com/ , if it were mine, and if you don't know me, that's some mighty strong praise.
