Bugs Bunny up for review!
Hi,I decided to pick my first listing to specifically target and chose the following:-Playful CARTOON INSTRUMENTALS are once again sought by a West Coast-based Music Publisher who typically supplies music to companies such as Muzak (tracks for retail shops, restaurants, malls, etc.). He wants to find great material for the upcoming TV season, as he has numerous contacts in that world as well. He's open to all types of instrumentation. Think along the lines of the underscore in Bugs Bunny/Road Runner/Warner Bros./Hanna-Barbera cartoons as a good example of what he's seeking -- fun, slapstick, energetic. He's asked us to be extra selective in what we forward -- he wants quality over quantity -- so your instrumental performances must be excellent. Your submissions should be between 1:00 -- 3:00 minutes in length. Please do not submit material with samples that have NOT already been cleared. He offers numerous types of publishing deals. If forwarded for D071117CT, please do not submit the same material here. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Feb. 7, 2008.I'm working on the following track and would appreciate any feedback from fellow passengers. I'm currently trying to improve some of the sounds but I'd be very interested to hear your feedback as the track stands at the moment. If anyone does manage to take a listen and is consequently worried about my sanity - I don't blame you! Many thanks and here's the link:-http://www.rlcmusic.com/audio/Cartoon.mp3Best wishes,Rachel

That's great! It's impossible not to crack a smile and listen to this. I don't think it needs anything else & it sounds exactly like what they're looking for.

Hey RLC,I have no familiarity with this particular genre, and haven't seen those kinds of cartoons in many years, but based on what I hear, I would say you're right on the mark with this one. I'm sure the more experienced folks'll chime in and give you their thoughts, but it sounds like a forward to me. Good luck! BTW, are you INSANE??? ibanez468

This is a *great* track, and IMO right on target -- except I think they are not going to like those vocals at the end, as neat as they are. Sound effects are cool, but they might feel this would have less application because the voices in the piece would not match the voices of the characters in the cartoon. JMO.

Thank you all very much for your feedback - much appreciated. I questioned the various sound effects and wondered whether tracks for this listing would stand on their own or be for visual purposes but I'll definitely take out the vocals at the end - even if that little chap was enjoying himself Thanks to you all again,All the best,Rachel

Re: Bugs Bunny up for review!
Rachel I think it's very good. I would agree that it's too heavy on soundfx. Vocals and the bird whistles should go at the very least. The main potential problem with this composition - for library use - is that it completely dictates the visuals of the scene. It really tells a story, and unless you get lucky and somebody has a scene that exactly fits your score, timing wise, or is willing to edit to it, it's going to be quite difficult to place this piece, IMHO.I would recommend longer, more regular/even musical sections, which will enable the music editor to edit your piece to the scene in question.I know that the Bugs Bunny scores, and cartoon scores in general, ARE very disjointed, just like your piece. But remember those scores were written to picture. The picture came first. I this case the music comes first, so that's something to consider.HTH,matto

Re: Bugs Bunny up for review!
Matto, Thanks for your feedback. That's the exact word that was going through my head as I listened to some of the classic cartoon music:- "disjointed". I can completely see where you're coming from and again it comes down to what types of usage it could be for. For that reason, I'm now thinking of submitting 2 versions - 1 with some fx and 1 without. I'll also write a few more musical sections so there would be more to choose from/edit. Thanks again,Rachel
