Finally!

Post by billg » Fri Jan 18, 2008 4:39 pm

I can finally stop trying to mix this song now that there's a listing that might suit it . . . whew! Our own Steve (Gilbert/Soucy aka "The Wealthy Songwriter") played the great keyboard parts).I'm thinking of submitting this;http://www.billgaunce.com/song/21for this;AMERICANA-influenced ROCK SONGS in the general range of Shelby Lynne, John Mellencamp,Ryan Adams, Ben Harper, etc. are needed by an Independent Film Producer in post production on his latest film. This is for the same film as the listing D080122PA,but with a different lyric tone needed. Lyrically, the focus is more broad and optimistic; with positive energy and excitement. Think about the movie "Pleasantville"blended with Norman Rockwell scenes, along with a touch of the film "Rushmore".Uptempo to midtempo is preferable. On these songs, they want a more rock edge witha heavy dose of Americana instrumentation and overall tonal quality. Male or Femalevocals are okay, but performances should be excellent. Broadcast quality needed[excellent home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened on a YES/NO BASIS ONLY - NO CRITIQUES FROM TAXI. For ground submissions, please enclose a S.A.S.E. if you would like aresponse. As always, we will notify everyone via e-mail, whether your submissionshave been Forwarded or Returned. Submissions must be received no later than Noon,Pacific Standard Time (California time),Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008. TAXI # D080123AMWhat d'ya think?

Hi Bill, I really dug the tune from lyrical concept, arrangement, instrumentation to production quality: all very well done! Though I felt it might not be really suited for this listing? Put it up, all you have to gamble is $5, but keep it in the mix for something that calls for more along the lines of "folk / rock / " ..... the tune reminds me of stuff between Tom Petty and the Black Crows it's the "americana" thing I'm having trouble with. I know Ben Harper's music is really heavy on the rock tip and they linked him into the "americana" thing possibly because of the lap slide stuff he does and the instrumentation on many of his albums. The john mellencamp thing I have no clue because I've never really listened to that stuff. The listing specifically mentioned uptempo first, excitement (next mid tempo) and a rock edge. Although the tune has an upbeat quality, the "excitement" is not driven by the tempo or the "rock edge" they're possibly really interested in.I'm learning how to read the listings and find the "between the lines" agendas too, so please, I offer this from my small amount of experience. I hope some of the heavy cats around here jump in and offer their $.02.Good Luck !!Monty

It sounds great, Bill.....very unique style as always in your music, and Steve did a very nice job on the keyboards. I say go for it. I can hear a John Mellencamp vibe in there, so I think it would be suited for the listing.
