Thanks all,PerryHoly Mother of.....your production and vocals are AMAZING. Is that you singing and did you produce these demoes? I didn't take time to read your MY SPACE page, sorry...I just listened to the songs.Your voice could rival any country superstar's out there, no lie. Your songs flow so smoothly... very nice use of steel in the songs, and I liked the lyrics to Dream Another Dream...I think that was the title.I'm write country myself, so I really appreciate it. Do you do any production work on the side for other people? If your songs don't get a TAXI country high bar foward, I don't think any of ours will.

Hey, Perry. This is GREAT stuff. Your voice ... what Chits said. As good as anything on Country Radio these days. Wow.My one and only comment is that you're missing the emotional kick of going into your upper register on BOTH of these choruses. I'm not talking "falsetto"; but these are BIG, emotional songs that deserve more impact in the choruses. I'm not even talking changing the melodies, but you could GRAB the listener even more with more emotion in your voice. And sorry to say, most times in the country market, that means going up into your tenor. These are BOTH very marketable tunes, but you don't seem to change the "pitch" of the heart behind the story, and that just strikes me as wrong. PLEASE don't misunderstand me. These are TERRIFIC. But to REALLY "sell" the performance, you need to (vocally) show a little more heartache. Fix that, and I think you've got some serious contenders here.GREAT work, Perry. Stick around these boards. You've got a lot to offer and ENORMOUS talents to share.Ted

Thanks, but that is not my voice or my production (wish it were). I wrote the songs and music but sent them out to a demo studio for production. The voice on "Is It Too Late" is Jeff Carson, who had a hit or two in the 90's, I think. I absolutely love his voice so I chose him to sing that song (as he was an option with the studio

Then I STILL say you have some serious contenders here. GREAT tunes, regardless. (I just would've produced them a little bigger, but that's ONLY my weird ears.)You've got the songwriting chops to make a serious impact on the Nashville scene. Keep it up.Can't wait to hear what you offer next.Ted

Just saw ted's post. Ted, I think you show your experience by your comments on the pitch and I appreciate it. Especially with Dream Another Dream--I would like to hear a bit more emotion in the sell. But these guys definitely did their jobs and laid down some great vocals. Thanks again for taking the time.

While I have a whole lot of respect for Mr. Ted, I don't agree with him on this one. These songs will pass through the TAXI high bar gate if you're a member of TAXI. I strongly believe you'll get a foward...I'll stake my rep on it. (well, what little 'rep' I have, hehe)Thanks for the production studio link and the country singer's name....I will check them out!Anyway, I'm gonna sign off. Have a nice evening.

And let me clarify...I agree with what Chits just said. I think these songs are GREAT (and those of us who lurk around these boards know all too well that "Good" is NEVER good enough). I don't question whether or not I believe these tunes would get past the TAXI 'country' screeners. That's almost a sure thing. (But then again, it IS the country market...the TOUGHEST nut there is to crack of all, and I have ZERO successes in that market, so WHAT do I know???? ).I was only commenting on moments when I thought the vocals should have soared (and absolutely COULD have soared) but didn't. Hopefully, a producer with good ears will KNOW how to give it just enough of a tweak to send it into the stratosphere.I repeat...these are fantastic songs with (IMHO) a big future.Keep posting. I'll want to hear more.Ted

Perry,I'll preempt this with a clarification -- I'm harder on my own stuff than anyone else's.It Is Too Late is a very, very good song. Though I agree it might get forwarded on a high bar listing, I also think it could be better-- and deserves to be. The first verse to me was pretty amazing. Simple words- but unique usage, an easy to understand concept with enough of a twist -- had me going... wow, this is a hit. However, there is such a "formula" to country hits and although many pieces are there, one thing that is blatantly missing is the chorus "lift". IMHO the hook line is not distinct enough from the rest of the chorus and that also lends to a lack of contrast going back into the 2nd verse. The vocalist is very good, but maybe another performance or some production elements could help establish that distinction, but if it were my song I would revisit that chorus to make it undeniably above bar. All that being said, it's one of the best songs I've heard around here in the genre, and I certainly wouldn't take my opinion as valid without other more qualified input.Glad to have you aboard. Aub

Dude,Just heard the 2nd song. Wow. Amazing stuff. Some magic lines in there. It's something to use common phrases in a unique way. Similar issues though. Lift that chorus and you have something that IMHO competes very well with stuff I hear everyday on the radio in my wife's minivan-- (my personal taste is somewhat more dark and quirky )Aubbtw-- would love to hear more of your story. I know you have more than two friends
