Funk Instrumentals

Here's the listing:A range of great, simple-sounding, but authentic FUNK INSTRUMENTALS (no vocals) are needed by a U.K.-based Music Library/Publishing Co. for TV placement. This company ran numerous TAXI listings in 2006 (and signed many TAXI songs) and is now in need of more great material as their service has become very much in demand. Style-wise, think James Brown, Prince, Tower of Power, George Clinton - that general range. They DON'T want funk fusion (smooth jazz), and they don't want tracks that sound like they were obviously MIDI generated - authenticity and great performances are the keys. Both instrumentals with lead melody lines and basic backing tracks that serve as "soundbeds" are OK - they want both. All tempos are OK. Track length should be in the 1:00 - 3:00 range. At this point they work mostly with prominent U.K. TV channels such as the BBC and ITV, but also supply music to other production companies that broadcast worldwide. They offer non-exclusive, 50/50 deals. Broadcast quality needed [great sounding home recordings are OK]. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. Please submit one to three songs online or per CD. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Jan. 10, 2008. TAXI # S080110FNAnd here's the piece:"Dig the Nasty"

Mazz! That's totally cool. I could tell this one's good from the first 3 or 4 notes. Like the rhodes sound. Real smooth. Good horn section work! Dig the way the horns taper and fall off that note. Real cool. Sounds like you've got a clav workin' in the background there. Yeah! Like the attack on your snare. Nice and crisp. Mazz, you've got the funk dude! Don't think you'll need any good luck on this. It's a forward fo' sho'. Just my opinion.ibanez468

Hey Vicky!Yeah, that's 100% lefty. And upside down at that! What I mean is, my guitars are strung right-handed. I know...it's screwed up, but then...so am I. But that's how I learned to play. It felt natural to me at the time, so I didn't bother to try and correct it. Does have it's limitations though. Whaddaya gonna' do?? ibanez468

For a few years I played in a band with a guitar player that did the same thing. You should have seen the looks on the faces of guitar players that would come to hear the band. "I know this song and what the hell chords are those? They sound right but they don't look right!" He was pretty fast on the leads, the "upside down" stringing didn't seem to make a difference to him and from what I've heard of your stuff, it doesn't slow you down either. Whatever works, right?Mazz
