HI - I've been working on this for a couple of days and could use some fresh ears & a different perspective. This is aimed for atmospheric film/tv... supposed to be 'a different sort of cover of a cover song'... could be or could be House of the Rising Sunhttp://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_id=7965 ... ummin'bird

I took a quick listen before I left the studio and I loved it. I didn't listen close enough to give a complete critique... but it's definitely worth tweaking out in my book. Of course I'm a sucker for odd, eerie stuff anyway Your voice is GREAT on this. Some balance issues between the main and background vocals. Also I would lose the drum count in, and just let the music start. I'll try to be more helpful later.Aub

Excellent! I think this unique approach to the song will have a lot of film/TV applications down the road. I'm pretty sure the song is Public Domain, not sure...Enya meets Eric Burdon and The Animals... As been said, you work out any issues on the levels between BG and FG vocals and any technical recording/mix stuff-- you know the type of things I can't offer much on - EQ, Verb, Pan, CIA, FBI, etc... Great stuff! It will be in my head all day! Casey

Wow, thank you very much!! I'm so glad you like it.Once again, I have to thank everyone for all their advice about choosing a mic and helping me get my head around reverb, EQ & compression, because without your patience & assistance, it would not sound this good. I remixed this slightly this morning based on your comments. I brought the lead up in those spots where it was covered a little. I also brought up the vocal percussion tracks & backed off a notch on the regular drums. I edited the drum track at the beginning. I think that covers the tweaks to date.http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... am=trueI'm soooo glad you all like this... because I took a chance, dove in the deep end, and submitted it late yesterday to this listing:COVER SONGS & INSTRUMENTALS in ANY GENRE are sought by the Pres. of an LA-based Publishing Co. for film/TV placement. "Outside the box" cover versions are preferred -- think an Electronica version of a folk-ish Bob Dylan song as an example, or Dynamite Hack's Alt.-Pop cover version of "Boyz In The Hood" by Eazy-E. Any covers are acceptable -- not just hit/very popular songs. Album "deep cuts" are OK. =-) If you haven't copywritten your cover song's arrangement yet, at the very least make sure you do have it registered with your PRO (ASCAP, BMI, PRS, etc.). You must own the master rights to your cover, of course. The owner of the company splits the license fee with you 40/60 [that 60% is for you] and doesn't take any publishing on placements. This company's owner will screen your submissions. Broadcast quality needed [excellent home recordings are OK]. Hummin'bird

Thanks Marcin, Dusty & Ted. I appreciate the listen and the comments. Ted, that experience of singing jamming with Casey (& Rachel) inspired me to think about doing the song when I saw the listing for uniquely covered cover songs.Well, the rest is up to the universe. On to the *next* song Thanks again, everyone!Hummin'bird

The Animals, "House of the Rising Sun" is a favorite of mine... Since Vikki and I have been chatting about the song I googled and found this:The Animals recorded this in 1 take, as they had perfected the song from years of performing it on the road. The Animals' drummer John Steel recalls in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, "We Played Liverpool on May 17 1964 and then drove to London where Mickie (Most) had booked a studio for ITV's Ready Steady Go! Because of the reaction we were getting to 'Rising Sun,' we asked to record it and he said, 'Okay we'll do it at the same session.' We set up for balance, played a few bars for the engineer - it was mono with no overdubs - and we only did one take. We listened to it and Mickie said, 'That's it, it's a single.' The engineer said it was too long, but instead of chopping out a bit, Mickie had the courage to say, 'We're in a microgroove world now, we will release it.' A few weeks later it was #1 all over the world. When we knocked The Beatles off the top in America, they sent us a telegram which read, 'Congratulations from The Beatles (a group)'" The producer Mickie Most recalls, "Everything was in the right place, the planets were in the right place, the stars were in the right place and the wind was blowing in the right direction. It only took 15 minutes to make so I can't take much credit for the production. It was just a case of capturing the atmosphere in the studio."15 minutes!!!Ah, the good old days... Casey

I hope I listened to the right mix....sounds great ....I've analyzed a few electronica pieces (sound paintings) recently.... to match forms, and tempos for "sounds like" bands on a few listings......although, I'm a beginner (I only made one so far, but it was forwarded) ...I can contribute something useful here...the original version of the song doesn't have a middle or change chord progression, but popular electronica definitely has a middle....the use of space is very important in the vocal and drum tracks....carve out from what you already have to make it a little hipper I think it'll be forwarded, Am I allowed to say that? sounds great!! I submitted a swing big band version of White Wedding (Billy idol)to the same listing... good luck.. Vicky
