Michael,I love the TV show! I am only a lowly 'lyricist'. lol So, I am no expert on drums, but I like the feel of the drums in this song. And the mix sounds pretty good to me .. again, I am a songwriter, not a producer so ...Dean

MikeCan't believe you first picked up a pair of sticks 5 weeks ago Good job on the drumming - didn't at all sound like a rookie. Mix wise I couldn't hear the hats or cymbals at all except at the quiet bits: intro, 2:30 and 3:10. I got the panning on the hats but they were v. quiet for me. Could be my burnt out ears Lovely panning on the toms Good tune - very 'full band' sound. How's the family doing with your drumming practising Liam

Michael,Maybe have a 3rd party mix one or more of your tunes. Then you could compare to your mixes and see if they are getting something out of the song that you are not. Just an idea.Dean

Quote:Thanks for the comments Liam. I have a hard time balancing the hats and rides, and I usually go too soft rather than too hard. One thing I have learned is that my listening setup is not good between 7-10 khz and below 80 hz, so I go too little just to be safe. The drums are v-drums, so they are actually electronic, and trigger ez-drummer. That means I get a better sound than I could mic, and no one else hears anything but tap-tap-thud.Be brutal on the sound and mix if you can. That has been part of what's holding these tunes back. Even if they get a forward, I am guessing that the client is not hearing something on par with what they need.MikeI saw a demo of the V drums at the Rally: I get your tap-tap-thud comment Firstly, I really like this song. As you've asked for mix comments, I'll throw my 2c in with the usual disclaimers. Perhaps one of the engineers around here will chip in and help me out Again, I really do think that the hats and cymbals are a bit lost. Particularly the cymbals, but the hats too. The snare and tom samples are fat, and the kick was fine. The off beat snares are quite driving I enjoyed them.I thought the intro piano sound might have been a bit bright for the theme - Heroes Cry Alone. The guitar phrasing in V2 made me turn my head a bit. I get what you were trying to do flavour-wise but I found I spent a lot of time trying to make out the guitar lines and consequently missed the vocal lines. The level was fine - personally I struggled with the sound.Loved the bass runs at 2:40 but they were also a bit soft. But I know MP3 conversion can squash the bottom end.I thought the vocals could do with more of those harmonies that you're so good at The 'live' drums really make this chonk along better. Please keep me posted if you tweak I like the song.Liam
