Hey Vikki,I'm no B-movie specialist, nor the high priest of cheesyness (or at least I hope not ), but in my opinion this is not the kind of cheesy they're looking for. Not even sure it sounds "cheesy" to me...I think they are looking more for that sort of porn movie or stripper vibe from the 70s, sort of "cheap and tawdry" stuff. That's how I read the listing anyway, particularly keeping in mind that this is a sports network. So you gotta keep in mind it has to sound like something a sports network could use.This is just my interpretation of the listing of course, no guarantees that I'm right about this... matto

Yeah, I don't know that this is very cheesy, either. I see this more as psychodelic sci-fi. Some interesting stuff in there, by the way.

I checked this listing again and here's what it says:sexy b-movie instrumentals (no vocals) are sought by the Music Supervisor of a major cable TV sports network for use in upcoming live sports programming. Think from classic 1970s-style cheesy adult film music to B-movies shown on Cinemax and Showtime. They don't want offensive material at all -- think sensual, sexy, and even funny.I'm not sure if they mean cheap & tawdry. I developed this track with the idea of 70s psychedelic + sensual... and I think it's "cheesy" because it's over-the-top.Don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing Matt's take on this, I'm just trying to get my head around what a major cable TV sports network is going to do with sensual, sexy and even funny classic 70s-style music & what that actually means.

I've been scratching my head on this one as well. I don't have any lasting memories of the music from 70's porn as a good point of reference. Vikki, I don't necessarily think orchestrally when I read the description. The seventies music introduced the clavinet and wah wah guitar to our musical vocabulary as well as cheesy(at least by todays standards ) string machines. Bass lines were beginning to be played on synths, in particular the Mini Moog.As I write this, I'm thinking the movie "Boogie Nights" the film about the porn industry and I think the 70's could be a reference point. The soundtrack may show up in itunes.I'm starting to get some ideas!!Chuck

Vikki,I like your piece a lot, your composing mind is very unique and quirky and it's great to hear it coming on strong. I don't think, however, this peice is on target for the listing. I think Chuck is right about the stylistic things to look for.I happened to have scored a low budget horror parody years ago that had a bunch of weird, off the wall silly scenes in it that called for a cheesy approach and I've edited some of the cues and decided to pitch them for this listing.Not sure if these are on target but I'd put them in the cheesy 70s-ish category:http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=1Keep on truckin!Mazz

"Boogie Nights" is definitely a good way to go on this, and if you type in "Porno Music" on itunes, you'll find a CD or two with some examples. That seems to be the best route!To me, I think the best way to describe it would be, for '70s style, old-school funk. What makes it cheesy is generally heavy scratchin' wah guitar, cheesy synth sounds, and a deep, funky bass line. It's just basically groovin' funk, but it always has a bit of a tongue in cheek feel. Think "Bow-chicka-BOW-WOW". The B-movie's on showtime/cinemax would be described as "Soft Porn" music...which is extremely similar to smooth jazz. Generally slow and groovin', with a good dose of cheesy string pads, rhodes piano, and goofy little synth lead lines. And again, a deep moving bass and wah guitar is generally essential, as well.I'm kinda bothered that I have all this information...Oh well, hope that helps!Dan
