Here's a little solo piano version of Danny Boy I put together.
http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=trueI tried to stay close to traditional but I fudged the changes here and there. Took a few liberties, but not too many for the listing, I hope Hope you like it.Mazzhttp://

Heh heh -- my tin whistle is pitched in D, so that's the key I wrote the accompaniment in. But when I tried to play the melody, it wouldn't hit both the low B and the high F# - so I had to find the next closest key and fudge the C naturals. I still wince at them!

Mazz and Kelysian,Nice job! I'm not sure which I like better. Both versions are great, and I bet both get forwarded.I submitted to this listing as well. Here's my version, which is yet another very different interpretation of the same song:
http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... m=trueMine is in the key of D, which seemed better for the violin. I think I may have miked the violin too closely though, which made the rosin sound more pronounced than usual. Maybe I'm being too anal, but it kind of bothers me. I don't know if it bothers anyone else, but I wish I had moved the mic back just a little bit more, now. Normally I like the rosin-y sound, so I don't know why I don't like it on this recording...And, maybe it's because it's 3:30 in the morning where I am right now.

Kathleen and John... nice jobs on both. For Kathleen... is there ANYTHING that "fife" can't do? Kevin... At this stage of my game, I don't really miss not having a full-blown live orchestra when I'm doing film stuff. It's not Hollywood for me (yet ). I can do a pretty convincing job of emulation, especially when it's part of a film and the audience has other sound plus the visuals to pay attention to. But having a violin player like that... WOW! These solo instrument things is where it really makes a difference.I'm guessing this is the same gal that played on the first track you posted here? Anyway, really nice and SOOOOO expressive.Dave

Hey Mazz...you better believe there's Bill Evans in my playing. I used to be able to play just like him until I shook it off...It still creeps in to my playing, but I guess that's not a bad thing right? Good luck to you too.CharlieP.S. kelysian...love the fife. Kevin...I think the violin is great...I wish I had that luxury.

http://www.taximusic.com/song.php?song_ ... ream=1Good luck to all of us huh?Charlie - beautifully done! I enjoy your work so much. I'd love to jam with you sometime!!! Such an interesting variety of tracks, how will they ever choose??I guess (unless songwriter has submitted his version, which I hope he has) I'm the only one who did something vocal. I have no objectivity, but hopefully it is somewhat acceptable:

There's no way of knowing for sure what they are looking for as far as number of different types of versions are concerened.A second reading of the listing makes me think they are casting a pretty wide net maybe because either they or their clients (TV show music sups/producers) won't know it until they hear it. Get used to it because that's the way it appears to be in my experience. I'm working on some pieces for submission to a TV show and this show uses tons of piano music so I wrote a couple of pieces with piano in them. No brainer, right? Wrong. They asked that all the piano be replaced on mine and everyone elses's pieces, and they needed it done quickly! Tomorrow they could decide to put the piano back in and guess what I'll do like a good little composer?..... Reading the listings is an art, ask Matto and Dave, they've got it down pretty well! Work on those Psychic powers, you're gonna need em!Mazz

I love working with her. She makes a violin part come alive. It's always amazing to me how lame my solo violin parts sound when being mocked up with a synth violin, and how "alive" they sound when I have her come in and replace them with the real thing!
