I leaned more towards the Zero Dark Thirty side of the references for this one. Also, I'm not 100% happy with the cello sound and am still tweaking it for realism.

Please submit well-crafted Instrumental Cues that have a serious tone/mood, yet are somewhat subtle, and can still move a scene forward. If your Cue can add some tension to a scene without being busy or frenetic, you could be in the ballpark! Build your submissions around a simple, focused melodic theme, while adding and subtracting various instruments as it progresses to give your Cue some interest, dynamics, forward movement and to keep it from sounding overly repetitive.

Your Cues should be approximately 90 seconds long, give or take. Non-faded endings with a natural decay/ring out are recommended. This TV Series has a high standard for the music they use, so please make sure to submit your very best material for this pitch! Maybe more tensions in the melody. for the cello. What about root b3 root 5 root b3 root then b2 instead major 2.
The harmonies in the orchestra later are maybe a little too nice as well. Perhaps some more tension there as well.
It's going to be a challenge to get the gliss in the cello to sound natural.

Still, your stuff that I've heard sounds really good. It's certainly inspiring me to up my game.

Sounds very immersive and polished to me... though I agree that the cello slides don't seem quite right. Not sure what instruments you're using or what sort of fine control you have over them, I think they mostly just sound a bit too uniform, in terms of overall speed and how smoothly on target they start and stop, to be quite believable.

Melodically - yeah, you do have a slightly sweeter and more obvious tune in there than any of the examples. (I'm struggling to avoid the same thing myself while working on this listing by the way!)

Thanks for the feedback! I like the b2/phrygian suggestion in the melody line. I'll give that a shot this afternoon when I'm back in the studio.

I do have a cello player friend coming over to lay down a live cello line on top of the MIDI strings to hopefully sell them a little better. She often needs percussion services, so it's a nice trade off!

P.S. I'm using VSL SE Cello along with Embertone Blakus Cello for that melody line.

Love the effect of the fuller chords in the progression that you bring in at around the minute mark by the way... I think they are a bit more structured and firm, if that makes sense, than most of what's in the alas. But they work really well.
