Drop My Bags

Post by adrianne76 » Mon Sep 10, 2007 3:34 pm

I just recorded a few new songs and I would love some feedback from fellow Taxi peeps. My main questions are do you like it, why/why not? What genre do you think this is? What artists would you compare me to?The first song I'd like to share is called "Drop My Bags" and can be heard via my taxi page:http://www.taximusic.com/hosting/home.p ... rianneHere are the lyrics:After all my slipping up, I think I finally haveMy feet firmly planted on the groundAnd after all those growing pains from loves that could not lastYou and I just might have it downAnd when the morning comes, I'm still going to be right hereI know much better than to stray away from you, my dearI'm gonna drop my bags right here next to yoursTogether we are learning how to be more like the seato ebb and flow from morning till days endAnd problably our greatest lesson comes from all of the treesWe will not break if we are willing to bendAnd when the morning comes, I'm still going to be right hereI know much better than to stray away from you, my dearI'm gonna drop my bags right here next to yoursI hope we never take for grantedAll of the precious seeds we've sewnI want to sit together in our gardenand watch it growAnd when the morning comes, I'm still going to be right hereI know much better than to stray away from you, my dearI'm gonna drop my bags right here next to yoursYeah when the morning comesthe morning comesYeah when the morning comesthe morning comesI'm gonna drop my bags right here next to yoursThanks!

I really liked how this song shaped up after the 1st verse. At first, I thought from the intro that it was country but it definitely didn't feel like that about halfway through. Felt more like it turned into a pop or alternative type song based on how the guitar changed and the effects on the backups in the chorus. I know from reading what people have said about how Taxi works, the reviewer will listen to the song at least twice all the way through, so they'll figure out where you're going with it. I LOVE your voice. Gorgeous! And it works well with this song. There might've been a couple of lines where the phrasing could be tightened up but I don't know if it's of that much importance. I'd move straight on to listings for film/tv and maybe ala Corinne Rae Bailey, stuff like that, which is very hot right now.

Thank you for your thoughts! (Although it might be a very bad thing if I am "changing genres" mid song!)

It's interesting, because I wouldn't have ever thought that this song was a country song, but a few people have said that now. Which is fine, hey, at least it has a genre! But then I went and screwed it up?? Anyone else willing to give this song some feedback? I'm wondering if the genre gets confusing for anyone else?

Sounded a bit country to me too at first. And I thought that before I started reading. But it seemed to stay focused well enough for me. It starts out like it is going to be country but then has a feel later that is, like if there as was country-pop-folk catergory. I personally might produce it a little bit different to aim it at a particular genre. It sounds great though Adrianne. But, like I said on your other song, I just love your voice! It is so sweet yet mature, cute but not kiddy cute.RobEDIT: Maybe I would produce it to be more like "Jewel" but with it's own style.

That's a good idea, Rob, thanks. I've had a lot of comparisons to Jewell. I should re-visit her stuff. And why ISN'T there a country-pop-folk category? I would finally have a name for what I've been writing lately!
