Beautiful World - New Song/Video

Okay, I'm breaking my new rule about selling no wine before it's time, but I wanted to get some feedback on this. There are few background vocals on this, and it's a scratch lead vocal-- no electric guitars yet either, but I'm pretty excited about this song. Ponch threw together some images and created a rough "video" for it, and even though it's definitely no technical masterpiece yet, this song really means a lot to us. I've not gotten on my soapbox much around here about political or world issues, but one reason I want to be successful in producing music is to be able to SAY something. 25,000 people will die today just because they are hungry, and that is insane considering the resources most of us take for granted. Enough of a speech --- here's the song/video:Beautiful WorldIf you like to read a little bit more about some of the reasons The Gypsy Van exists check out the bio on

Not that I always understand your posts anyway , but I can't figure out what a BD is Idiot Boards I get. I probably have one somewhere. The video is not even close to being finished - it's just a mockup (I don't even agree with all of the images, but it sets the right tone), nor is the production of the song near finished. We may do a little cameo if there's a real video. I do hope to have the song finished by tomorrow night - that probably depends on how much sleep I can do without Aub

Hi Aub, I like your song. It has it's own personality although I do feel a slight beetle sound in there. I am wondering once you "produce" the song if some of that will be lost. Which could be ok so it don't end up too dated. I was never a BIG fan, but I liked plenty of music from them. I have heard another song from you. It was your first rejection post. I remember reading/listening to it cause I could relate... hehe This song is definately a new direction, from that one anyway. I can see why you guys feel a special connection to this song and I am feeling your excitment heheI am going to keep an eye on this one 'cause I'd really like to see where it ends up, once you're finished. As I listen more, Blind Melon popped into my head, if ya ever heard of that band. I think if you do this well you will have a potential hit here. You're gonna have to work this one up with talent to do it justice. Obviously you will lose the "camp ground jam around the fire sound" the more "production" ya give it but that could be a good thing. Song structure is there so nothing for me to say in that realm. Any thoughts on which direction you will go with the "production"? Are you going to "Do it up"? or keep it simple? Keep up the music making Aub, ya definately have talent and I think it is only a matter of time before you get your first hit. EDIT: haha, I started writing my post and the new version wasn't here yet. Listening now. Good job and I really liked the way it came out on the "clean" tracks. The you tube video was cool but the audio sorta blew for getting a real idea of what the song would sound like. This link ya have now it sounds sweet.Good luck on the submittion, I really like it. /crosses fingers

Aub, I like the Beatles vibe. It covers their Vaudeville influences well. They were very influenced by the music hall type stuff they heard growing up. You got some of that vibe in the chord progressions, IMO.Was this for a listing that calls for a 60s type sound? I almost never look at the song listings so I'm not up on them. How about posting a bit of the listing so we can see how you nailed it! Good work,MazzPS: didn't fire up the video yet.

Hi AubI didn't get to look at the video but I have headphones here at the orifice and doing a few listens. All I can say is "I like it!! Yes, it's very retro. But it looks like the lyrics were designed to go with a Beatles sound. BTW, is that Harrison's ghost on some of those guitar licks? I think this would work well as a movie trailer or a TV show theme as well as in many other applications. I often find that upbeat tracks are a little more marketable- at least I see more requests for that. This is obviously very upbeat... The only thing I wonder about is should it have a little less verse and more "It's a beautiful world" chorus. But, if you already sync'd to a video and the video is what you are after, that might not matter at all. I'll check out the vid later...I like it! Casey

Wow. After few replies on Certified Beach Bum I was starting to get a complex Thanks for the listens and feedback. To kind of answer everybody so far... The video posted is like a scratchpad drawing of what we plan to do. For now it just sets the tone for what the intent is. I'm working on the logistics now to really produce a video for this track.Over the past few months, Ponch and I have written and produced several songs specifically targeting listings. This one was the other way around. We were set to work on another track, and Ponch started humming this early big band, swing kind of thing--- lights and bells went off, and this song evolved. We had been talking for quite some time about doing a song with this kind of theme, and everything just fell into place. The Beatles influence was very intentional - right down to the Sergeant Pepper reference. Our first direction was with some trombones and stuff, but once the acoustic guitar, drums and bass were in place, it seemed to feel right to keep that swing kind of feel, but use guitar and vocals instead of brass -- but the kazoo was non negotiable. The trick, or at least our attempt, was to keep that "campfire" feel, and some rawness, with more production than just acoustic. Blind Melon was an interesting observation btw. We're not really trying to be retro... this is just the kind of sound we like. It's very natural for us. The listing we submitted to today doesn't mention a retro sound, but several of the bands listed venture pretty deep into that territory, so we're hoping to fit. Here's the listing.Quote:Great INDIE/ALT./MODERN ROCK-POP ARTISTS with "brilliant/hit songs" are sought by a Canadian Indie Music Company with major int'l publishing and distribution affiliations. Musically, think along the lines of the Silversun Pickups, the Decemberists, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, the Shins, Franz Ferdinand, Sleater-Kinney, Interpol, Razorlight, Arcade Fire, etc. They're interested in releasing/licensing full artist albums and/or single song recordings internationally for film/TV projects. Mid to up-tempo songs only -- no ballads. You don't have to have a full CD in order to submit, but it'd be a big plus. They want to find exceptional artists to market to the world -- via record distribution and film/TV/media projects. Songs must be Broadcast Quality (excellent sounding home recordings are OK). Please submit two to three songs online or per CD, include bio/photo/lyrics. All submissions will be screened and critiqued by TAXI and must be received no later than Aug. 24, 2007. TAXI # S070824IRWe submitted this, Psychedelic Sneakers, and Certified Beach Bum.... and about the ghost of George Harrison... To say Ponco is an amazing guitarist is an understatement. He can literally tear up any style-- he's an incredible classical, jazz, and prog rock player. But one of the most impressive things about him, though he has the skill to show off and play a buzzillion notes a second, he is more interested in what fits. However, if you want to see the wizard in action, here is a clip from a performance a few years ago in Indonesia.

I'm not sure what you want this song to accomplish. If you want it to be a radio hit or for TV or movies. For radio the length may be a problem.I think it works well for movies or TV.Structure wise I thought the chorus could have had more range melodically so it would stand out more from the verse.Production wise it has a very sixties feel.Beatles influenced sound.Good luck

The first goal is TV/film - but even for radio, in today's market 4:29 is not too long. Thanks for your comments on the structure and production too.Aub
