Tell me I'm a punk...

Post by aubreyz » Mon Oct 16, 2006 8:48 am

A dispatch listing came through late Friday for a deadline today-- wanting to play the Dispatch challenge game, I composed and recorded a little ditty for this listing:The Music Supervisor for a TV film geared toward 8-14 year olds [to be shown on a large Children’s Cable TV network] needs an energetic and well-performed POP-PUNK SONG. Right now, he has “C’MON C’MON” by the VON BONDIES temped in this cue, hence he needs a great tune with a similar tempo and lyrical theme. The film is essentially a kid’s version of the Billy Murray film “Groundhog Day” where each day repeats itself. Keep in mind that the viewing demographic is 8-14 year olds, so your lyrics must be age-appropriate. Male or female vocals are OK, but he prefers male vocals for this cue.And my submission:Whatever WhateverThanks for listening... comments and critiques will be appreciated as always.Aub

I like the beginning of the song. The song as composition itself could work in my point of view.some weak parts are:* the drums are way to bouncy - too many syncope brakes, that kills the flow and groove.* the drum-samples aren't that good - it's hearable that it's programmed.the cool parts:* the singing suits the tracks - well done!* I think the track is basicly on it's target (style - I didn't understand the lyrics, but I'm not native and didn't really listen to it;))I think the weakest point is the rhythm - I miss that head-shaking, easey-going groove.cheers,Martin

Hey Aub,I heard this before after checking out your site.. I really like the chorus section, but the bridge is a little predictable sounding and a little dated out of place... I sort of agree with Martin in that it could use a more steady groove in places, like that of your chorus section... I like to bounce around though to keep things interesting... As far as on-track for the listing, I'll let those who have the experience in submissions respond to that... Sounds punky with an attitude to me, unless they are looking for more straight forward stuff...Later,DaveThe Davewavehttp://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=189280

Thanks for the input!I threw this together quickly. The groove might need some work. We'll see how the screeners feel, and I'll let you know (though for this listing it will be yes/no only)Aub
