Hey all!

I decided to take a stab at the surf rock listing... never made a track like this before with a retro sound. Would love any and all thoughts on it!

Thanks!

ORIGINAL SURF ROCK INSTRUMENTALS are needed for a several $4,500, NON-Exclusive, Direct-to-Music Supervisor placements in an Action Adventure Fantasy TV Series. This Music Supervisor needs Guitar-Driven, Mid-to-Up-Tempo Instrumentals that would fit on a playlist with these references, which the Music Supervisor gave us:

“Miserlou” by Dick Dale - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKpsuGMeqHI

“Wipe Out” by Surfaris - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p13yZAjhU0M

“Pipeline” by The Chantays - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7c2ZKamzS4

NOTE: Over the course of the next few days you will see quite a few requests from this Music Supervisor as he is working on a series that uses Guitar-based music to represent different eras in music history. This series will need a LOT of different kinds of guitar music, and the Music Supervisor will be using TAXI as one of his primary sources to find that music!

Please submit well-crafted Instrumentals that instantly transport listeners back to the sun-soaked, sandy beaches of Southern California where it all began. Having Electric guitars with tremolo and whammy bar in your production could help get you in the stylistic wheelhouse.

Although Surf Rock music tends to be instrumental, if your tune has some minimalist vocal phrases placed throughout (a la the "Wipe Out" reference) that's okay! That was quite common in this genre. Male vocalists only, though, per the Music Supervisor.

NOTE: Recently recorded Instrumentals, as well as Vintage recordings, are both fair game for this request; however, this Music Supervisor would prefer to hear NEWER recordings that authentically capture the requested musical style.

Quoting the Music Supervisor: “I need uplifting Instrumentals with plenty of dynamics and Infectious Riffs! Great catchy rhythms with deep pocket energy and drive. These tracks need to feel and sound like the real deal.”

Please don’t mention specific names, places, dates, times, brands, or profanity. Do NOT copy the referenced artists in any way, shape, or form. Use them only as a guide for tempo, texture, and tone. Broadcast Quality is needed.

Hey..sounds great! You definitely captured the whole surf guitar vibe thing. Great use of reverb and catchy guitar riffs too. Nicely done!

HA! That's nothing but surf all the way!
At least it deserves a forward.
It's even mono and sound like an old gramophone! 8-)

[edit]
In the corner of my eye I see the last sentence in the listing above.
"Broadcast quality needed."
mmmmmmmmm
But what is broadcast quality in this case?
Is hi-fi always "better"?

Thanks guys!

And great question, HowlingUlf. From everything I read in the listing, it sounded like they wanted authentic sounding surf music from the era (especially since they were open to old recordings).

I actually thought about making another track with a similar vibe but with a little more modern mix approach just in case, but we’ll see.

Thanks for listening!

Nice job!

I agree with HowlingUlf and Brad, you really captured the right vibe but I do think the drums could come up just a little.
Is there any bass at all in the genre? :D

What a fun listing, I´ll be sure to make one too

Good luck with it!

Thanks Anders! I'll look into bringing the drums up a bit.

And as far as bass goes, I went back and forth on whether or not to even track it. :D If you listen close on the references, it is there.. but it sounds like it doesn't really add anything but some excess noise, lol.

Thanks for listening!

Very nice Andrew!

Could be a forward w/o bass ..... you know how those old recordings are!!!

I would submit 2 tracks ...1 with bass and 1 without.

Seeing's how my first LP was The Challengers... this authentic-sounding track takes me back... in a good way. :? :P
Well done; ought to get you a placement, IMHO.
Cheers.
