Hi everyone -
I'm new to writing positive instrumental cues - and could use some help.
I would like to get feedback on the mix only on this short instrumental.
I have a few ideas after hearing it on taxi tv, but I'd love suggestions.
Thanks in advance -
Anne

Very pretty piece Anne!
I think you can turn up the overall volume as it just barley registers on my meters.

Hi Anne,
I like it. I think you should bring up the drums when they come in to make it more dynamic. Maybe even bring them in with some type of a roll?
Also if its for the listing I saw and submitted to the other day it needs to be at least 2 minutes I think.
Cheers
DT

Anne,
Awesome work! The vibe of positive is definitely spot on. Like mrdtman said, check the listing to see if it has to be 2 minutes, or about 2 minutes.
I'm sorry, you asked specifically for us to comment on the mix. Everything seems balanced and blended nicely. For me, I would forward your track. Of course, I'm not a screener. I can easily see this cue working on a commercial or other production.
Have a good one,
Greg

I was inspired by the listing to start learning to write in the genre, but it isn’t for the listing. I still need to work on length, edit points, and getting the volume issue sorted out as you mentioned. Your feedback is really helpful while I work out the bugs and create a template so thank you for taking the time to help!

FWIW - 2 cents from The Peanut Gallery...
it's a good-sounding composition, and with the proper length and edits, as mentioned by others - sounds like you've got a good one.
Cheers.

Its a great start. Its got the vibe.
If it were me - the rhythm of the drums I would change to a straight 1/4 note kick with snare on 2 and 4 or kick on 1 and 3 and snare on 2 and 4. The syncopated rhythm that you have now on the kick takes some of the forward momentum away.
Definitely A/B against some of the other refs from this listing that had drums and get the same balance. With the bass I would expect at some point its going to go to a straight 8th bass pounding away. Transitioning between the longer bass notes and more pop 8th note bass will help your piece switch gears.

I was especially stuck on what to do with those darn drums! I will work on an update tomorrow. Thanks everyone for the feedback and suggestions - it is tremendously helpful.

Here's my 2 cents.

I agree with other's comments. I'm also curious to hear what it sounds like just a little faster...perhaps 5 bpm or so. It might give a nice lift to the the overall positive vibe. At the beginning of the song I felt like I wanted to hear it just a bit quicker for some reason. Also, the mix sounds pretty balanced to me. Good luck!

Thanks Henry. I haven’t been able to work on it since my original post, When I do, I will burn a version with the different tempo and see what happens.
