Man, great sounding recording! Where'd ya get it done?
Did you just write it or did you also produce/play on it? :D

I'm not really into Americana ( although ironically I am working on some hybrid orchestral / Americana type instrumentals at the moment ) so take with a grain of salt.

It' all sounds professionaly played...until the singing starts. Definitely needs a stronger vocalist IMHO.

Melody seems jaunty enough. I've probably never watched a TV Show that might use something like this and maybe we don't even get them in England. Was this for a listing ? References ?

Lyrically I'm not very keen, it comes across terribly corny and jingoistic to these British ears. Different attitudes I guess ? ..I don't think we really go in much for Patriotism here so just an outside perspective.

Definitely get a better singer though.

Mark

Yep - the vocal thing - not a surprise. Just haven't found one that has worked, yet.
For what it's worth, Lee Greenwood had a monster hit with his very patriotic "God Bless The U.S.A." - it's sorta in that ballpack.
No - not for a specific listing; more along the lines of an artist pitch.
Thanks for the ears and comments.

Thank you. I employed a cast of my 'regular' Nashville Cats to record the instruments.
The scratch vocals and mixing were recorded in San Diego, where I directed the mix & production.

Hey Peter, I know that is yourself singing - and that is pretty good! However, I would agree that he track could benefit from a stronger voice (but don't ask me, because I only do chipmunk... ). As I have written before, I can easily see this in a documentary of sorts, e.g. historic, biographic, or travel. Maybe you could process the voice somehow (layering, Melodyne, chorus/reverb, I don't know) and it would work without vocals from elsewhere?

For the patriotism thing - Mark has just taught me a new word! But there definitely is a major difference in attitude - even more so if you compare US vs. Germany. I guess we've just messed up once too often between 1914 and 1945, so unconditional patriotism for a long time was and still is seen as problematic. Very different story in the US, of course, where there also is less of a sense of national guilt about the (in comparison smaller) mess-ups of the past. But let's not get political (forum rules!). Fact is, spending several weeks a year in the Midwest/Lakes region, there is a major difference in this regard to some (if not all) parts of Europe.

For what it's worth, some folks I know from a different part of the world, where they were raising young kids, remarked to me something like,
"when we moved to the states, we were overwhelmed at how 'empowering' to them this culture of freedom was." Nuff said.
Thanks for your comments.
And - as previously stated - I am STILL on the hunt for the right vocalist for this collaboration.
Cheers.

hey Peter - the vocals may not be as big of a concern as you think it is.

This track is currently still pending for 3 listings so we should have screener feedback any week now.

Will keep you posted, have a great weekend!

Jay :)

I get that, Jay - and thank you for pursuing the song's opportunities & future, on the basis of its content.
Notwithstanding, I recognize the high-bar concerns and critiques regarding the vocal performance.
If I/we find 'the right' voice for the track - then, most certainly that will improve the quality of the track.

Whilst I've not seen the listings or heard the references I think you're underestimating precisely how high the bar is for a broadcast quality vocal.
